What I spent while my husband is deployed!

So my husband is currently deployed and we are fortunate to be making extra money during this time. We have been able to put a lot into savings but I am going through I shopping phase 🙈 I do have to admit this is not a usual spending week for me! I usually go many weeks with only spending money on groceries. This week we did not need groceries thankfully.

Monday: I spent $75 on one month of my daughter’s dance classes. $65 for internet, $25 for DoorDash, and $35 online shopping.

Tuesday: $300 online shopping (decor, daughter’s birthday presents)

Wednesday: $25 online shopping (hair accessories)

Thursday: $115 online shopping (presents and book box) and $152 on prime membership.

Friday: $37 on makeup

Saturday: $191 on HOKAS shoes, $59 on DoorDash $19 on YouTube premium, $8 on Netflix

While deployment often means separation from a loved one, it also sometimes results in changes to household budgets and spending habits. The weekly spending detailed here offers insight into balancing everyday expenses with occasional splurges, highlighting the importance of budgeting and financial planning. With a total weekly spend of around $1,100, this budget reflects a mix of necessary expenses and personal treats. The substantial spending on online shopping for decor and birthday presents is a reminder that even during deployment, maintaining family celebrations and home comforts remains vital. The investment in a month of dance classes for the daughter shows a focus on nurturing children's interests and providing continuity in their activities. It's interesting to note the recurring expenses on digital services such as Amazon Prime, YouTube Premium, and Netflix, which play an important role in entertainment and convenience, especially when one partner is away. DoorDash expenditures indicate a reliance on food delivery services, which might be a practical choice during busy times or days when cooking isn't prioritized. Moreover, the purchase of specific items like HOKAS shoes and makeup shows attention to personal care and wellness, which is crucial for maintaining morale and self-confidence during challenging periods. This also suggests that while savings are important, allocating funds for self-care and family enjoyment is part of a balanced financial approach. From a broader perspective, tracking weekly expenses using hashtags like #biweeklybudget and #budgetwithme emphasizes the growing community of budget-conscious individuals sharing strategies online. Tools and apps tagged with #moneyapps and #moneyhacks point to an active effort to optimize finances through technology and smart planning. For other military spouses or individuals managing similar circumstances, this detailed spending account can act as both a guide and an inspiration. It encourages transparency in financial habits and demonstrates that it’s possible to juggle saving goals with occasional indulgences during times of change or separation. Ultimately, open communication, realistic budgeting, and community support emerge as essential pillars in navigating financial life while a spouse is deployed.
