They say the islands change you...
and they're right. I recently got to experience the Island of Hawai'i living and working on a farm for a month. Both aspects of this experience, the farm and the Island, have changed my view on things a bit. It was hard to place what the specific things were at first, but I'm starting to see them.
I'm not sure in what ways this is going to affect my life, but I somehow feel like my eyes have been opened to something I couldn't see before
Spending time in Hawai'i offers profound lessons about sustainability and our relationship with the environment. Many visitors notice a shift in their perceptions—items that seem charming or desirable before may now appear wasteful, reflecting a broader consciousness about consumerism. After a month immersed in nature, the contrast when returning to urban settings can be jarring. The heaviness of processed foods may weigh more heavily on one’s conscience, inspiring healthy food choices rooted in the simplicity of farm-fresh produce. Moreover, being distanced from the ocean can create feelings of disconnect, highlighting the intrinsic value of nature in our lives. This experience encourages adopting a more mindful approach to living, underscoring themes of thrift and minimalism while connecting deeply with the beauty of the Hawaiian Islands. Embrace these changes and consider how they might inspire a more sustainable lifestyle upon your return.

Wow what a great experience.. how did you get to do this?
