“THE GOOD GUY”
why does he want me to die
or just to go runaway and hide
he knows i’ll always fight
he met me
always in a fright
for my next fight
so why does he want me to die
so he can take them away and disguise
as the good guy?
his disguise
he wears it well
for all who look to see
whatever pose he’ll prop for you to see
he knows he’ll always be down on one knee
i’m sorry to see
it’s not easy to be
the man of disguise
who only wants me to be
the woman he’ll never see
in the end it was never me
only revenge you ever seeked
tell them goodbye
and the reason why
one day they will see right through
your disguise at being the good guy.
their mommy i’ll always be -
the villain youll always try and seek.
why do you want me to die?
why can’t i be the good guy?
The poem captures a raw and emotional perspective on the facade that some people maintain, often referred to as the "good guy" mask. It reflects the struggle of living with hidden intentions and the tension between outward appearances and internal battles. In real life, individuals who are seen as the 'good guy' can sometimes hide deeper motivations or unresolved conflicts, which can affect their relationships profoundly. This poem also touches on the theme of fighting against adversity despite the challenges faced. The narrator shows resilience in fighting what seems like an ongoing battle, highlighting the strength required to continually stand up against hardship. The feeling of being misunderstood or mislabeled, as reflected in the lines questioning why they can’t be seen as the 'good guy,' is a common human experience. Moreover, the poem explores the idea of disguise and deception, suggesting that outward appearances can be misleading. This serves as a reminder to look beyond the surface and understand the complexities behind people’s behavior. Such reflections can resonate with many who have experienced betrayal, manipulation, or emotional conflicts in close relationships. For those navigating similar feelings, it is important to recognize that healing often starts with acknowledging these internal struggles and seeking support. Writing, such as poetry and journaling, can be a powerful outlet for expressing pain and reclaiming one’s story. Connecting with communities that support mental health and emotional wellbeing can provide comfort and help break the cycle of silence and disguise. Ultimately, this poem is more than just a narrative of conflict; it is a call to see beyond the masks people wear and to seek understanding and compassion for the struggles that lie beneath. It encourages readers to reflect on how labels like “good” or “villain” often oversimplify complex human emotions and experiences.
