It's truly a vibrant place with something for everyone, and I'm already dreaming of my next visit. First off, getting there is an adventure! I remember looking out the airplane window at night, seeing that incredible sprawling city lit up below – it really gives you a sense of how vast and energetic Mexico City is. It's truly a breathtaking sight to behold as you descend into this incredible metropolis. My top tip for planning? Give yourself at least 4-5 days to scratch the surface. There’s so much to explore. We started exploring the historic center, El Zócalo, which is bustling and full of history. The Metropolitan Cathedral is stunning, and just walking around the Palacio Nacional area gave me chills, imagining all the stories within its walls. And the FOOD! Oh my gosh, the food. You absolutely cannot go to Mexico City without diving into the street food scene. Tacos al pastor are a must-try, of course, but also look for esquites (corn in a cup), tamales, and churros. For a slightly fancier but still authentic experience, we loved a place near our Airbnb that served incredible mole poblano. Don't be afraid to try new things – that's half the fun of exploring a new culture through its cuisine! Getting around is super easy. We used a mix of Uber and the metro, which is surprisingly efficient and affordable. Just be mindful during peak hours, it can get crowded! Always keep your belongings secure, just like in any big city, and be aware of your surroundings. Beyond the main sights, I’d highly recommend visiting Coyoacán to see Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul – it’s so inspiring and beautiful. Chapultepec Park is also gorgeous for an afternoon stroll or a visit to one of its many museums. We even caught a Lucha Libre show one evening, which was such a unique and fun cultural experience that I'd recommend to anyone looking for something different! A quick note on packing: comfortable walking shoes are non-negotiable! You'll be doing a lot of exploring on foot. Layers are also good as the weather can change throughout the day, especially from morning to evening. And if you're prone to motion sickness like me, maybe pack some remedies for the flight, just in case! 😉 Honestly, Mexico City surpassed all my expectations. The culture, the art, the people, the food – it all comes together for an incredible travel experience. Don't let a bumpy flight deter you; the destination is absolutely worth it, and I can't wait to go back!
