Let’s make a bunny salad 🥗
• Hey guys I just wanted to vlog me making my bunny’s salad for today!! These are my two rabbits Kiwi and Cookie. They are both male Holland Lops 💚🩷
• I give them different things throughout the week so I know this has a lot of sugar in it but I don’t feed them this every day

Hey fellow bunny parents! After sharing my bunnies' favorite salad, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into why fresh salads are so important for our fluffy friends and how you can make sure you're offering them the best, safest options. Just like for us, a varied diet is key for rabbits, and a fresh salad packed with nutrients is a fantastic way to supplement their hay-heavy diet. When I first started making salads for Kiwi and Cookie, I did a lot of research to make sure I wasn't accidentally giving them anything harmful. It can be a bit overwhelming with so much information out there, but I've found a good routine that works for my boys! What Goes Into a Great Bunny Salad (and How Often!): Leafy Greens (The Foundation!): This is the bulk of your bunny's salad and what they can have daily. Think about using a variety of leafy greens like romaine lettuce, green leaf lettuce (which you saw me use!), red leaf lettuce, butter lettuce, and even dandelion greens (if you're sure they're pesticide-free!). Herbs like parsley, cilantro, dill, and mint are also big hits and packed with flavor and nutrients. I always make sure to wash everything thoroughly before chopping it up. Avoid iceberg lettuce as it has very little nutritional value and can cause digestive upset. Veggies for Variety & Crunch: Beyond leafy greens, you can add a small amount of other beneficial vegetables. Carrots are a common favorite, and I definitely include them for my bunnies, but remember they are higher in sugar, so they're more of a treat than a daily staple. Other great options include bell peppers (all colors!), cucumber, celery (in small amounts due to strings), and even a little bit of broccoli or cauliflower florets. I've heard some bunnies love asparagus, like the spears seen in the prep photos – just offer sparingly to see how your bunny reacts! The key here is moderation and variety. Fruits (A Sweet Treat Only!): This is where I have to be careful with Kiwi and Cookie because they absolutely adore anything sweet! Fruits like grapes and apple slices (especially those I mentioned might not look perfect but are loved!) are fantastic for an occasional treat, but their high sugar content means they should only be given in very small quantities, a few times a week at most. Other fruits you can offer sparingly include strawberries, blueberries, and even a tiny bit of banana. Think a thumb-sized piece for every 2 lbs of bunny weight, just a couple of times a week. The background pattern in one of my photos with strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries is a fun reminder of these delicious, but occasional, additions! Things to Always Avoid: It's super important to know what NOT to feed your rabbits. Things like avocado, chocolate, processed human foods (bread, crackers, cereal), dairy products, and certain plants (like rhubarb, potato leaves, and many common house plants) are toxic or can cause severe digestive problems. If you're ever unsure about an ingredient, it's always best to check with a vet or reliable rabbit care resource first. My Personal Tips for Salad Success: Introduce New Foods Slowly: When I introduce a new veggie or fruit, I give a very tiny amount and observe Kiwi and Cookie for 24-48 hours for any changes in their droppings or behavior. This helps prevent tummy upsets. Mixing it Up: I try to vary the greens and veggies I offer each day to ensure they get a wide range of nutrients. It also keeps things interesting for them! Chop it Up: Smaller pieces are easier for them to eat and digest. Freshness is Key: Always make sure your ingredients are fresh and clean. Making a bunny salad is more than just throwing some greens in a bowl; it's about providing balanced nutrition and showing our pets how much we care. Seeing Kiwi and Cookie dig into their salad with such enthusiasm, often giving it a '10/10' rating with their happy munching, makes all the effort worth it! I hope these tips help you create delicious and nutritious salads for your own adorable rabbits!
