My second appointment (9wks)
A few days ago I had my second check up at 9wks and 3 days, baby is measuring good with a strong heartbeat of 186! Thankfully everything was pretty uneventful, and I was able to schedule the genetic testing bloodwork for next week.
The blood work should show any likelihood for genetic deformities, and baby’s gender! After that my next appointment will be at 13wks 5 days.
Pregnancy and being a mom is starting to feel more real❤️🤰🏻
Seeing your little one for the first time on screen during an early ultrasound is truly magical, isn't it? For many of us, the 8-week or 9-week ultrasound is that first real glimpse, confirming that a tiny human is growing inside. I remember feeling a mix of nerves and overwhelming excitement heading into my recent scan. If you're nearing your 8-week ultrasound or a 9 weeks 2 days ultrasound, you're probably wondering what to expect. These early scans are incredibly important for several reasons. Firstly, they confirm the pregnancy is located in your uterus, ruling out an ectopic pregnancy. Secondly, the sonographer will look for the gestational sac, which houses your developing baby, and the yolk sac, which provides early nourishment. Most excitingly, they'll be looking for the fetal pole and, hopefully, that beautiful, flickering heartbeat! This is often when the pregnancy starts to feel incredibly real, and you get that undeniable "BABY!!" feeling. During my 9-week scan, seeing that strong heartbeat of 186 BPM was just the most reassuring sound. Typically, by 8 to 9 weeks, a healthy fetal heart rate ranges between 120-180 beats per minute. They'll also take measurements, known as the Crown-Rump Length (CRL), to accurately date your pregnancy. This measurement is crucial because it helps establish your estimated due date, which can sometimes differ from what's calculated based on your last menstrual period. After the initial excitement of seeing the baby and hearing the heartbeat, discussions often turn to future tests. Many of us opt for genetic testing, like Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT), which involves a simple blood draw. This screening can check for the likelihood of certain chromosomal conditions, such as Down syndrome, and often reveals the baby's gender much earlier than traditional ultrasounds. It’s comforting to have more information, even if it’s just a screening test. For any first-time moms out there, navigating these early weeks can feel like a whirlwind of information and emotions. My biggest advice is to soak in every moment, ask all the questions you have during your appointments, and don't hesitate to share your feelings with your partner or support system. Every pregnancy journey is unique, but these early milestones, especially those first glimpses during the 8-week or 9-week ultrasound, are truly unforgettable and make the upcoming adventure feel incredibly tangible.

Congratulations 😍dear
