can’t miss places in nyc!✨🤍(from a local)

born and raised in nyc, here are some of my favorite non-touristy spots! 🚕🌆

Liberty Bagels 5th Ave

these are some of the best bagels in nyc🥯they have a million different flavors of cream cheese so you will never run out of options!

Yan's Antique Jewelry Inc.

this small spot in chinatown has some of the most beautiful dainty watches ever. they do have pieces at a higher price point but have tons of options in a cabinet marked $99 and under. 👀

senti senti

this place has every hard-to-find asian beauty and skincare product you’ve ever heard of. 🧖‍♀️ i recommend going on youtube or reddit to find some products you’re looking for and senti senti will have them! there’s also a bigger location in brooklyn.

Sensuous Bean of Columbus Ave

this is a hole-in-the-wall coffee shop that has incredible coffee. this is a locals-only spot in the heart of the upper west side☕️

Hummus Place

this is my absolute favorite hummus in nyc! 🧆i could eat here for every meal. it’s also on the upper west side and wont be touristy. it’s a small and casual spot great for going to with a friend or significant other.

New York
2024/12/31 Edited to

... Read moreBeyond my specific recommendations, I often get asked, 'How do you find these hidden gems in a city as vast as NYC?' It's all about looking beyond the obvious tourist traps and embracing the local vibe. For me, part of the magic of living here is constantly discovering new favorites, whether it's a cozy coffee shop or a unique spot for shopping. When it comes to food, everyone knows NYC is a culinary paradise. While places like Liberty Bagels are a staple for me – seriously, their diverse cream cheese options are a game-changer for any bagel enthusiast – I also love seeking out other specific food experiences. For instance, if you're looking for incredible plant-based options, don't just search for a generic 'vegan restaurant.' Instead, ask locals in specific neighborhoods or check out smaller food blogs. You'll find everything from incredible vegan bakeries to hidden ethical eateries. It’s about more than just food; it’s about the community and the experience. And speaking of unique finds, my absolute favorite hummus place, Hummus Place, is a testament to how incredible a simple dish can be when done right – truly a local secret! Shopping is another adventure. Yan's Antique Jewelry Inc. in Chinatown, with its dazzling display of antique watches and dainty pieces, is a perfect example of a specialist store. But NYC has so many nooks and crannies with independent boutiques. Instead of large department stores, wander through neighborhoods like the East Village or West Village. You might stumble upon a small art gallery, a vintage clothing store, or even a specialized bookstore that feels like a museum in itself. It's about the thrill of finding that one-of-a-kind item, rather than mass-produced souvenirs. For those into beauty, exploring stores like Senti Senti for Asian beauty and skincare products can be a real treasure hunt. And for those seeking culture or a unique night out, think outside the box. While grand museums are wonderful, NYC also boasts countless smaller, niche museums and art spaces that offer a more intimate experience. Looking for a 'rock bar' or a unique music venue? Skip the Times Square pubs and head to areas like Bushwick or the Lower East Side. You'll find venues with incredible live music and a genuine local atmosphere. Even a 'financial institute' can be interesting from an architectural perspective if you just look up! My best advice? Put on some comfortable shoes, pick a neighborhood, and just start walking. You'll be amazed at what you discover!
