First time in Alexandria, VA

This weekend, I visited Old Town, Alexandria. It was an half an hour drive and traffic was a breeze! It was so beautiful and I enjoyed seeing all the ships, the tower and restaurants. Volas was such a great restaurant and had such delicious food. I can’t wait to go back and spend more time. #trip #lemon8challenge #virginia #alexandriava

... Read moreMy recent trip to Old Town Alexandria was truly unforgettable, and I'm already planning my next visit! If you're considering a trip, especially if it's your first time like it was for me, here are some extra tips and insights I gathered that I wish I'd known beforehand. First off, getting there was surprisingly easy. I drove, and the half-hour journey from my starting point was smooth sailing. Once you're in Old Town, parking can be a bit tricky, but there are several public garages and street parking options if you're patient. But honestly, the best way to explore this charming district is on foot, or even better, hop on the FREE King Street Trolley! I saw it stopping near the Road Station, and it's such a convenient way to get from the Metro station down to the waterfront without tiring yourself out. It runs frequently, so you're never waiting too long. Beyond the beautiful ships at the waterfront, which are a sight to behold, make sure to wander through the side streets. Each alleyway seems to have its own story, with historic homes and quaint shops. I loved browsing the boutiques along King Street – you can find everything from unique gifts to antique treasures. Don't forget to visit the Spite House, the narrowest historic house in America – it's a fun little photo op! While I absolutely raved about Volas (their food was divine!), Old Town Alexandria is a foodie paradise. From casual cafes to upscale dining, there's something for every palate. Next time, I'm eager to try some of the other highly-rated spots like The Chart House for seafood with a view, or grab a coffee at a local independent cafe. Many restaurants also have lovely outdoor seating, perfect for people-watching. For those interested in history, the Carlyle House and Gadsby's Tavern Museum offer a fascinating glimpse into colonial life. And if you're looking for iconic landmarks, the George Washington Masonic National Memorial offers incredible panoramic views of the city from its tower – definitely worth the climb or elevator ride! My biggest takeaway? Give yourself more time than you think you need. My initial visit felt too short because there's so much to soak in. Wear comfortable shoes, keep your camera ready, and just enjoy the relaxed, historic atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a family outing, or just a peaceful day trip, Old Town Alexandria has something special to offer. I can't wait to go back and discover even more of its hidden gems!
