Steam cleaning my car!
I did not realize how disgusting my steering wheel was!!! 🤢 I don’t think I have ever really cleaned it in the last 5 years 🤦🏼♀️ it’s probably cleaner now than when I bought my car 😅 this is your sign to get a schenley steam cleaner! I have it linked in my tiktok showcase! #steamcleaning #steamcleaner #steamclean #carcleaning #cleaningmycar
Okay, so you saw my steering wheel transformation, right? I'm still reeling from how much dirt came off! It truly was "my sign to steam clean your steering wheel" after seeing how grim it had gotten after years of neglect. It makes you wonder what else is hiding in plain sight in our cars! But beyond the initial shock value, why is steam cleaning your steering wheel so amazing? Well, think about it: your hands are on it constantly. We eat in our cars, sneeze, touch things, then touch the wheel. It's a breeding ground for germs, oils, and general grime that builds up over time. Steam cleaning doesn't just make it look clean; the high heat sterilizes and deep cleans, lifting away dirt that regular wipes and sprays often miss. Plus, it brings back that fresh, new-car feel without using harsh chemicals that can sometimes damage your car's interior materials. It’s a game-changer for interior hygiene and appearance! When I decided to tackle this, I learned a few things that made the process super effective. Here's a quick guide based on my experience, so you can achieve that sparkling clean steering wheel too: Gather Your Tools: You'll definitely need a steam cleaner (like the Schenley one I used!), but also some clean microfiber towels. Having a small detailing brush with soft bristles can be incredibly helpful for getting into those tiny crevices and stitching on the steering wheel. Prep the Area: Before you start steaming, give the steering wheel a quick wipe down with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any loose dust or crumbs. This helps the steam penetrate and lift the embedded dirt more effectively. Steam Carefully and Wipe Immediately: Don't just blast steam everywhere! I recommend using a small nozzle attachment on your steam cleaner. Hold the steamer a few inches away from the steering wheel, allowing the steam to loosen the dirt. Work in small sections. Immediately after steaming a section, use a clean microfiber towel to wipe away the grime. You will be absolutely amazed at the color of that towel! For textured areas or stitching, use your detailing brush to gently agitate the dirt loosened by the steam, then wipe again with your microfiber towel. Dry Thoroughly: After you've steamed and wiped all sections, use a fresh, dry microfiber towel to wipe down the entire wheel. It's important to ensure no moisture is left behind, especially near any electrical components like buttons or airbags. Repeat If Needed: For really stubborn spots, like those areas where your hands rest most often, you might need to repeat the steaming and wiping process. My steering wheel definitely needed a second pass in some areas to get it truly spotless! Once you've done your steering wheel, you'll probably get addicted! I'm already eyeing other spots in my car. Steam cleaners are fantastic for door panels, armrests, gear shifters, cup holders (oh, the horror!), and even fabric seats for spot cleaning. Just be mindful of delicate electronics and always test a small, inconspicuous area first, especially on leather or sensitive surfaces. Now that my steering wheel is sparkling, I plan to do a quick steam clean every few months, and just a regular wipe-down in between. It makes such a difference, not just visually, but also knowing it's genuinely clean and hygienic. Trust me, if you're on the fence, this is absolutely your sign to give your steering wheel the steam cleaning it deserves!
