Happy Sunday! It’s been a busy week for me, but I still got in my reading time, and I absolutely loved this latest rec I have for y’all!
P.S. You’re Intolerable is a forced proximity, grumpy sunshine, single mom, boss/assistant romance between Catherine and Elliot.
I loved Catherine’s character! She’s so determined and strong, always looking for the positive in life even when everything seems hopeless. She loves her daughter, Joey, and her friends with her whole heart, always wanting the best for them, doing what she can to make their days brighter. Even when her boss, Elliot, gets on her nerves with his grumpy attitude, she manages to find ways to cheer herself up, even if it’s at his expense at first. I loved watching her let him into her life and want to make him a part of her and Joey’s day-to-day life as he shows her that not everyone will betray her like so many people have in the past. I also understand how protective she is of Joey and her own heart as she finds herself falling for Elliot the more time they spend together.
Elliot is one of my new favorite grumpy heroes! From the start, he sees Catherine differently than other people, not in a cliche way, but in a cute way when he realizes that where other people simply take orders from him, Catherine finds her own ways to rebel against him. He recognizes Catherine’s used to people walking all over her, and wants to encourage her to talk back at him and be snarky and tease him. Even when he won’t admit his feelings to himself, he does everything he can to make her as comfortable as possible, both physically and mentally. It’s so sweet how he wants Catherine and Joey around him all the time, helping them any way he can even when he has no idea what he’s doing. He’s obsessed with Catherine in the best way possible, and when they do decide to be a couple, he doesn’t hesitate to let everyone know about it. He grows so much from a guy who wants nothing to do with people into a boyfriend and father who can’t get enough of his girlfriend and daughter. He’s wonderfully protective of Catherine and Joey, never letting anyone try to hurt them or take them away from him. The way their love heals him from his past, allowing him to open up and feel everything again when he thought he never would is something I wish for everyone who wants love.
This was my first Julia Wolf, and I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from her in the future💕
... Read moreWhen I first stumbled upon 'P.S. You're Intolerable' by Julia Wolf, the book cover immediately caught my eye. There's something about the aesthetic that just screams 'romance novel' in the best way possible, hinting at the chemistry and emotional depth within. Seeing it displayed on my phone, alongside that glowing 5/5 rating (which I totally stand by!), really solidified my excitement to dive in. It's not just a pretty picture; it perfectly encapsulates the contrasting personalities of Catherine and Elliot, subtly hinting at their 'grumpy sunshine' dynamic even before you read a single page. If you're like me and often judge a book by its cover, this one does not disappoint in representing the heartwarming and steamy story inside.
What truly sets 'P.S. You're Intolerable' apart in the vast sea of romance novels is Julia Wolf's masterful execution of beloved tropes. The 'grumpy sunshine' dynamic between Elliot and Catherine is pure gold. Elliot isn't just mildly displeased; he's gloriously, hilariously grumpy, especially around Catherine. But beneath that prickly exterior, you discover layers of protective instincts and a heart of gold. Catherine, on the other hand, radiates warmth and resilience, a true ray of sunshine determined to find joy even when facing adversity. Watching her playfully challenge Elliot, breaking down his walls piece by piece, was incredibly satisfying. It’s a dynamic that feels earned and authentic, making their eventual connection all the more powerful.
Beyond the grumpy sunshine, the 'single mom' and 'boss/assistant forced proximity' elements add so much depth. Catherine's devotion to her daughter, Joey, is central to her character, and it’s beautiful to see how Elliot not only accepts but embraces this aspect of her life. He doesn't just fall for Catherine; he falls for their little family, showing up in ways that genuinely matter. The office setting creates natural tension and undeniable proximity, making their slow-burn romance incredibly potent. It's not just about workplace banter; it's about two people learning to trust, to heal, and to open their hearts to a love they never expected.
This book really earned its 5/5 rating from me. It's a journey filled with laughter, heartfelt moments, and intense chemistry that had me completely engrossed. Julia Wolf has a way of writing characters that feel incredibly real – their flaws, their strengths, and their vulnerabilities are all laid bare. The emotional arc for both Catherine and Elliot is incredibly satisfying, showing how love can truly heal past wounds and bring out the best in people.
