Things in my therapy office that just make sense

Some people might not be aware of how intentional a therapist is when making their office. I strive for my office to be a safe and cozy space for someone to come into.

✨notes: I always have at least one note book on hand for any session notes. I also write my to-do lists in here.

✨cozy afghan: one of my besties made this for me. I cuddle up with this during sessions and when completing documentation. I find when I am cuddled up and cozy it allows my clients to feel more comfortable as well.

✨reminders wall: I have little reminders everywhere. Also on this wall is different stickers, thank you cards and so on. I always just enjoy when looking at this space.

✨my degrees: each state is different in that some require that you display your degrees. My state is not one of those but I opted to display mine anyways, mostly because I worked so hard for them that I love being able to see them.

✨pics of my pets: this might not seems like something worth noting. However, these pics have proven to be such a good ice breaker and rapport building. I don’t self disclose much to my clients but this is something personal that I don’t mind sharing with my clients so they feel like they know me some too.

✨therapy books: need I say more lol?

✨mood lighting: I am blessed to have an office that has tons of natural light. But, even on gloomy days I have lamps because this is a no over head light space 😅.

✨toys: I work with adults only, however sometimes people bring their littles into session with them.

✨diffuser: I tend to always use lavender in my diffuser because I find it the most relaxing. My office is also so so dry in the winter so this helps combat that.

✨fidgets: I mean who doesn’t love a good fidget. This is something else that I use frequently during sessions as well as my clients.

✨tissues: I make sure to always have a couple extra boxes on hand. I also tell my clients that I am a girls girl and I will not let you walk outta my office with your make up running so I also have some makeup wipes in my desk, just in case.

✨clock: this is for myself just as much as my clients. I have ADHD and I can get off topic and ramble sometimes too.

Would you feel comfy in my office?

Other therapists, what do you have to have in your offices?

... Read moreIn the realm of mental health, the environment of a therapy office plays a crucial role in the comfort and openness of clients. A carefully curated space not only reflects the therapist's personality but also serves as a conduit for healing. Many therapists opt for cozy furnishings like afghans or comfortable chairs to encourage relaxation. Soft textures and calming colors contribute to a serene atmosphere, making it easier for clients to discuss their thoughts and feelings. Personal touches such as pictures of pets are common, as they serve as ice breakers and make the therapist seem more relatable. The inclusion of a mood lighting system can also enhance the ambiance, ensuring a comfortable setting even during dreary weather. Additionally, therapists often utilize practical tools like notebooks for session notes, fidgets to help clients focus, and diffusers with lavender to create a soothing scent. These elements are essential in establishing a therapeutic environment where clients feel safe and understood. Every detail, from the choice of decor to the type of lighting, is intentional, signaling to clients that their comfort is paramount. For other therapists, sharing what they deem essential in their offices can foster community and encourage new ideas for building supportive spaces. Creating a therapy office that prioritizes comfort and accessibility not only benefits clients but also enhances the overall therapeutic process.
