Poem I Wrote Titled: Awkward Awakening
I am shifting and flowing
Evolving and growing
Consistently in a state of doubt
Constantly questioning all that I once knew to be true
Weaving in and out of the pain in the memory of what ultimately leads me to this point
Lack, abuse, neglect, tragedy…
Drying the tears and banishing the fears
Blossoming like a lotus flower
Rising above the water in the community pool of control that tried to drown me
Resisting the void of my past self and my enlightened self
Dissolving the identity, the image of self that no longer resonates
As I remain patient in this awkward awakening
I embrace the not knowing
I experience the radical change and power within
I sense, feel, see, hear, and experience with great awareness of the world around me
I am Awkward and Awakening

This poem captures the intricate journey of evolving through pain, doubt, and struggle toward self-awareness and healing. Themes such as abuse, neglect, and tragedy represent the heavy foundation from which the narrator rises, symbolized by the lotus flower blossoming above water—an enduring emblem of purity and rebirth despite adversity. The poem’s reflection on ‘banishing fears’ and ‘drying tears’ illustrates the process of emotional recovery, which often involves confronting difficult memories and embracing uncertainty. The state of being ‘awkward and awakening’ suggests that personal growth is not always smooth or clear-cut but requires patience and acceptance of the unknown. Ideal for readers who resonate with transformational journeys, the poem encourages embracing change while letting go of past identities that no longer serve personal growth. It highlights the importance of awareness—sensing, feeling, seeing, and hearing—as integral to navigating life with mindfulness. For those undergoing their own awakening, this poem can be an inspiration to find strength in vulnerability and to understand that healing is a complex but meaningful process. It reminds us that while the awakening phase can feel uncomfortable or uncertain, it ultimately leads to profound empowerment and self-acceptance. Incorporating these insights into one’s own experience can enhance emotional resilience and foster a deeper connection with oneself and the world. This poem stands as a testament to the ongoing human capacity for renewal and the transformative power of embracing both pain and growth.
