let’s prioritize reading diversely, together! 🧡📖📙
In March, I found #thediversebaseline reading challenge through a friend, and loved how it was not just a quick one and done challenge!
The challenge is designed to highlight and amplify BIPOC authors, so you make them a regular part of the books you pick up to read each month *ahem* aka the baseline. Each month, for the entire 2024, there are 3 different prompts to inspire you to discover different BIPOC books - and try some new authors!
Swipe over above to learn more about the challenge, and then support the hosts, by:
✨ following ‘bookish.millennial’ & ‘themargherita.s’ on IG
✨ tagging them and using the hashtag when posting
✨ tagging the BIPOC authors on socials and reviewing their books online
✨ subscribing to their email newsletter, they give great book recommendations, send out reminders, and help you discover which books fit which prompts
✨ join the reading challenge on Storygraph to add books to the prompts, find the prompts, more info, and see what others are reading
Last month, I hosted a reading sprint livestream with the hosts and other creators participating in the challenge- and I hope to host more of these streams throughout the year! This way I can keep myself accountable, find more readers participating in the challenge, and discover more BIPOC authors.

Reading diversely is integral to understanding different perspectives and experiences. This year, the #thediversebaseline challenge emphasizes BIPOC authors, offering readers a structured way to engage with varied narratives. Each month's prompts encourage exploration of new genres and themes, such as chronic illness, cultural heritage, and colonization. To enhance your reading journey, the challenge supports community interaction through social media engagement. By tagging hosts ‘bookish.millennial’ and ‘themargherita.s’ while sharing your progress, you can build connections with fellow participants. Additionally, subscribing to newsletters will provide tailored book recommendations that align with the prompts—ideal for discovering hidden gems in BIPOC literature. Remember, whether you're reading a novel or essays, every contribution helps to enrich the dialogue surrounding diversity in literature. Join a reading sprint livestream to deepen your engagement and foster accountability within the community. These events offer a vibrant space to discuss insights, celebrate new finds, and uplift BIPOC voices in literature. The overall goal is to create an inclusive reading habit that continues beyond the challenge, inviting more readers into the rich tapestry of diverse storytelling. If you have questions or need guidance throughout your journey, don't hesitate to reach out for support!
