Baked Granola Bars
These healthy homemade granola bars were inspired out of a need for better-for-you bars that don’t cost an arm and a leg. Our families love store-bought options, but we continuously feel disappointed by their ingredients. So, we decided to make our own, infusing them with nutrient-dense options and plenty of chocolate chips!
Ingredients⬇️
• 1/2 cup honey
• 1/4 cup butter, softened
• 1/4 cup peanut butter
• 1 egg
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 2 ½ cups rolled oats
• ⅓ cup flour (gluten free, oat, whole wheat)
• 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut shreds
• 1/2 cup hemp hearts seeds
• 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
• 1/4 teaspoon salt
One of the best parts about making your own baked granola bars is the ability to customize the ingredients to fit your nutritional needs and taste preferences. Adding an egg to the batter is a game changer—it acts as a natural binder that keeps the bars from crumbling and adds a nice texture balance. I’ve found that cutting the bars immediately after removing them from the oven, while they’re still piping hot, makes slicing much easier and ensures that the bars hold their shape once cooled. After the initial cut, let the bars cool completely before making a second cut for perfect portions. Incorporating nutrient-rich ingredients like hemp hearts and unsweetened coconut shreds boosts the protein, healthy fats, and fiber content, giving you a snack that not only tastes great but fuels your body well. Peanut butter adds creaminess and extra protein, while a touch of honey naturally sweetens the bars without the refined sugars often found in store-bought versions. Including mini chocolate chips is an indulgent touch that keeps the bars appealing to kids and adults alike. I recommend experimenting with different types of flour, such as gluten-free oat flour or whole wheat, to accommodate dietary restrictions or preferences. Plus, you can swap out the chocolate chips for other mix-ins like dried fruits, nuts, or seeds to keep things interesting. Overall, these homemade baked granola bars are a budget-friendly, wholesome alternative to store-bought options that often contain unnecessary additives and preservatives. Making them at home also gives you control over portion size and ingredient quality, making it a more satisfying and health-conscious snack choice for the entire family.
