I have beef with American Dentists 👿
I’m seriously mad. Sometimes it’s like the world doesn’t want you to take care of yourself! I recently had a small piece of my gums start growing rapidly up against my bottom tooth. After going to my regular dentist to check it out, they had to get me a referral to see a “specialist” gum doctor.
Tell me why they only work on 2 days a week?!?🥴 Well I understood when I got my bill.
It’s legit criminal to be charged nearly $1000 US for the smallest least invasive surgery on my gums and make me wait 2 months to be seen.
Does anyone else feel this frustration!? Honestly maybe I should have just kept trying to ignore it and not let it bother me and just wait until I visit out of country to get it done. 🙄

Wow, I totally get your frustration! Reading about your experience with what you called the 'American Dental Industry is a JOKE' and that shocking '$975 cost' for a minor gum procedure really hit home. It’s infuriating when you try to take care of your health, only to be met with exorbitant bills and endless specialist referrals. Like you, I’ve often felt overwhelmed by dental costs here. It seems like even a simple check-up can spiral into a costly affair if they find anything beyond the basics. For something as specific as an 'overgrown gum,' navigating the referral system and then being hit with a bill like yours, or even the 'nearly $1000' you mentioned, is just disheartening. Many of us are looking for ways to make dental care less of a financial burden and a more comfortable experience overall. One thing I've found helpful, especially when faced with a specialist referral for a 'gum procedure,' is to always get a second opinion if possible. Sometimes, different specialists might have slightly different treatment plans or cost structures. It’s also worth asking if your general dentist can recommend a more affordable specialist, or if there are any dental schools nearby that offer services at a reduced rate. They often have top-notch equipment and supervising faculty, and the costs can be significantly lower. Community dental clinics can also be a hidden gem for more budget-friendly options. Beyond just the financial stress, dental visits can be really anxiety-inducing, right? While ASMR might not be a direct solution for an expensive gum surgery, the idea behind it – seeking soothing experiences – can actually be applied to making dental appointments less stressful. For me, bringing noise-canceling headphones and listening to my favorite podcast or even some calming music really helps drown out the drill sounds. Some people even find certain guided meditations helpful. It’s about creating your own little bubble of calm in what can be an otherwise tense environment. Don't be afraid to communicate your anxieties to your dental team; a good dentist and hygienist will often take extra steps to ensure your comfort, like offering breaks or explaining each step as they go. And let's talk about preventative care. It’s easy to feel like it’s a losing battle with the costs, but consistent daily hygiene is truly your best defense against needing more invasive 'gum procedures' down the line. Brushing twice a day, flossing religiously (even when you don't feel like it!), and using a good mouthwash can make a huge difference in preventing issues like an 'overgrown gum' from developing or worsening. Regular cleanings, even if they feel expensive, usually save you money in the long run by catching problems when they're small and easier (and cheaper) to fix. I’ve definitely learned this the hard way myself! It’s a tough situation, and your 'vent' is completely valid. It’s clear many of us share the same frustrations with the high costs and complex system of dental care. But by staying informed, exploring all your options, and finding little ways to make the experience more manageable, we can hopefully navigate this challenging landscape a bit better. Keep advocating for yourself and sharing your experiences – it helps us all feel less alone in this dental journey!

Everyone in my family goes to Mexico. You receive significantly better care for a fraction of the cost.
