The Simple Meaning

This verse explains that God is the source of all love.

• "He first loved us": This refers to God’s unconditional love for humanity, shown most clearly through the birth and life of Jesus (the reason for Christmas).

• "We love": Because we have experienced God's kindness and grace, we are inspired and empowered to share that same love with others.

In Short
