Ephesians 2:14-16 One in Christ

This verse is about unity and peace through Jesus.

• The Dividing Wall: In ancient times, there was a strict religious and cultural wall between two groups of people: the Jews (who followed the Old Testament laws and ordinances) and the Gentiles (non-Jews). They were separated by deep hostility.

• The Cross: The verse explains that when Jesus died on the cross, He broke down that invisible wall of hatred. He did away with the old rules that kept people apart.

• One New Man: Instead of keeping the two groups separate, Jesus brought them together to create one brand-new community that lives in peace with each other and with God.

... Read moreReflecting on Ephesians 2:14-16, I’ve come to appreciate the profound transformational power of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. Growing up, I was aware of divisions among different groups in society, much like the separation between Jews and Gentiles mentioned in the verse. The idea that Jesus abolished the ‘law of commandments expressed in ordinances’ and the ‘dividing wall of hostility’ speaks deeply about breaking barriers that keep us apart in everyday life. In personal experience, embracing this message has encouraged me to foster peace and unity in my own community, valuing people beyond their backgrounds or past differences. The notion of ‘one new man’ in Christ challenges us to let go of prejudices and reconcile with one another, just as Jesus reconciled us to God through the cross. Understanding the significance of the ‘ceremonial commands, rituals, statutes, and regulations’ that formerly separated groups helps one see how the cross removed unnecessary divisions, inviting everyone into one body of believers. This has inspired me to reflect on modern ‘dividing walls’—whether cultural, racial, or social—and actively seek ways to break them down by practicing kindness, forgiveness, and genuine connection. Moreover, this passage reminds me that peace isn’t just an absence of conflict but a deep restoration created by Jesus’ flesh on the cross. It’s a call to live out unity in diversity, recognizing that we are all part of one reconciled family. For anyone struggling with feelings of division or hostility—whether internal or external—this scripture offers hope and guidance toward wholeness and harmony.
