Prob 22:6
Growing up, there was something my grandmother and my mother would say to us often. Their words were simple, but they carried a lifetime of wisdom. They would remind us, “Teach your children so they will know how to get along in the world after we’re gone.” At the time, we may not have fully understood how powerful those words were, but the older we became, the more their meaning settled into our hearts.
Those words always bring to mind the scripture, “Train up a child in the way that it should go,” Proverbs 22:6. Our elders understood that raising children was not only about providing for them in the moment, but preparing them for the day when they would have to stand on their own. They knew that faith, character, kindness, and wisdom were gifts that would carry us through the changing seasons of life.
Today, children are facing many challenges in the world around them. But even in difficult times, we can still have hope. As long as GOD is watching over us and we remain close to the LORD, we will be guided and strengthened. That is why the idea of the village is so important. The village may not always look the same for every family. Sometimes it is not only parents or grandparents, but also neighbors, mentors, church family, and caring friends who step in with love and guidance.
When we choose to live with the attributes of our Heavenly Father—compassion, patience, mercy, and truth—we become a light for others. We look out for the elderly, support those who are in need, and help guide the children who are growing up around us. In doing so, we reflect the character of GOD.
When we show up in someone’s life with that spirit, people do not simply see us. They see the presence of GOD working through us. They feel the peace, the kindness, and the strength that comes from HIM.
And now that my mother and grandmother have gone on, I am deeply grateful for the lessons they planted in our lives. Their words still guide me today. My reliance is upon the LORD, and I am thankful they taught us to trust in HIM. Those seeds of faith continue to grow, reminding us that when we stay close to GOD, we will always find our way. #jesus #harmony2SF #peace #faith #fyp
Reflecting on Proverbs 22:6, I have personally witnessed how the principle of training children in the way they should go shapes not just their future, but the fabric of entire communities. Growing up, I saw how elders' words acted as a compass for navigating life's complexities. The verse emphasizes more than just teaching; it calls for nurturing faith, kindness, and wisdom—qualities that become anchors in turbulent times. In my own experience, the support of a village—from parents to mentors, neighbors, and church family—plays a crucial role. This collective nurturing mirrors the compassion and mercy of our Heavenly Father, reminding me that raising children is indeed a shared responsibility. It is this community spirit that inspires resilience and hope amid challenges. Living out these values means embodying patience, truth, and mercy daily, not only to guide children but to become a source of light for everyone around us. The presence of God shines through such acts of love, bringing peace and strength to those we touch. The legacy of these lessons stays with us, reminding us that close reliance on God provides direction and comfort beyond what we can see. By trusting in this divine guidance, one not only honors the teachings passed down by our ancestors but also plants seeds that will flourish across generations. Proverbs 22:6 thus is a timeless call to cultivate hearts equipped for both this world and the next, grounded in faith and fortified by community.
