Finding Your Rhythm Again 🫶

Getting back into an exercise routine postpartum is a step-by-step process. Listening to your body is so important when considering what type of movement and exercise you want to take on.

Lifting weights can be a huge proponent to mental health clarity on your postpartum journey. This is the form of movement I personally enjoy, on top of taking walks either on a treadmill or outside. Jogging, pilates, yoga, hiking, and swimming are also great options for movement postpartum!

If possible, involve your baby in your routine! This could include stroller walks, baby-wearing during light exercises, or going to mommy and me fitness classes.

Nourishing your body with healthy, nutrient dense foods is also going to promote feelings of happiness, decreases your cortisol levels, improves immune functions, promotes digestive health, and increases energy levels. Remember to take days to rest and appreciate your body for everything it does! 🤍

... Read moreOkay, new mamas, let's talk about one of my absolute favorite ways to get active after baby arrives: stroller walks! When I first started thinking about postpartum workouts, the idea of hitting the gym felt impossible. But getting out with my little one in the stroller became my lifeline. Not only is it fantastic for gentle postpartum fitness, but it's also a huge mood booster. Making your stroller walk a real 'workout' is easier than you think. Start by finding a comfortable pace that gets your heart rate up slightly – you should be able to talk but not sing. Try incorporating intervals: push faster for 2-3 minutes, then slow down for 1 minute. Repeat this throughout your walk. Hills are your best friend! Pushing that stroller uphill is an incredible way to build strength in your legs and glutes, plus it gives your core a good workout too. Remember to maintain good posture, keeping your shoulders back and down, and engaging your core. Don't be afraid to switch up your grip on the stroller handles to work different arm muscles. Safety first, always! Make sure your stroller is suitable for brisk walking or jogging if you plan on picking up the pace. Many modern strollers are designed for this, often called 'jogging strollers.' Also, ensure your baby is securely strapped in and comfortable, maybe with some toys or snacks for older infants. Timing is everything – I often go during my baby's nap time, so they're usually content for the duration. Fresh air is amazing for both of you! Beyond just walking, you can turn your stroller outing into a mini full-body session. Find a park bench or a sturdy railing and do some tricep dips, incline push-ups using the stroller or bench, or even some squats while holding onto the stroller for balance. This is where those strength training benefits really come into play, echoing what I learned about lifting weights for mental clarity. It’s like a mini mommy-and-me fitness class right in your neighborhood! And let's not forget the mental benefits. Those postpartum workouts, especially outdoors, are incredible for reducing stress and anxiety levels. The change of scenery, the fresh air, and the rhythmic movement can work wonders for your mental well-being. It helps me clear my head and feel more connected to myself and my baby. Plus, it's a great way to meet other moms; I've made some wonderful friends during our regular stroller walks. Remember, every step counts. Whether it's a 15-minute stroll around the block or an hour-long power walk, you're doing something fantastic for your body and mind. And don't forget to refuel afterwards with those nutrient-dense foods we talked about earlier to keep your energy levels up! Listening to your body is key – some days you'll feel like conquering hills, other days a gentle wander is all you need. Enjoy finding your rhythm again with your little co-pilot!
