MOM HACK | Getting Chores Done Quickly
At the end of a long day the last thing I want to do is the little bit of chores that are left on my to do list. Here’s a hack that helps me get these chores done quickly and more enjoyably.
Use a timer. That’s it.
When using the timer on my phone I literally see how long it can take me to do the dishes (or whatever chore at hand), and it gives me a time to beat for the next go-around. It is so silly and simple that it really does make doing chores more interesting!
You also get to reap your rewards by having the satisfaction of a job well done, and an item is checked off your list!
When I look at our dishwasher that needs unloaded, then reloaded because the sink is full, I get overwhelmed. That overwhelming feeling can easily turn into procrastinating the chore it self, and suddenly I’ve created a snowball effect.
To prevent this scenario from happening, I throw on my favorite playlist, pull up my timer, and see how quickly the chore ACTUALLY takes me to complete. I guarantee you it never takes as long, or is as daunting, as I expect.
I hope this fun little hack helps you knock out your entire to do list! Happy cleaning!

Building on my quick timer hack, I've discovered even more ways to master my to-do list, especially when those 'chores time calculation' thoughts hit me. It's not just about setting a timer, it's about how you use it! I've found that applying a 'sprint cleaning' method, where I commit to a short, intense burst of cleaning – say, 15-20 minutes – before a quick break, makes even the most daunting tasks manageable. It’s like a mini-challenge, and honestly, it’s thrilling to see how much I can tackle in that focused time. Beyond just hitting 'start' on my phone, I’ve also explored dedicated 'chore focus apps' to really level up my efficiency. There are some fantastic options out there that do more than just time your tasks. For instance, I've tried apps that let you break down bigger chores, like 'deep clean the kitchen,' into smaller, less intimidating steps: 'unload the dishwasher,' 'wipe down countertops,' 'scrub the sink.' This really helps me avoid that overwhelming feeling I used to get when looking at a full sink or a messy kitchen. What I love about these apps is how they help with 'chores time calculation' in a smarter way. Many allow you to track how long each specific task takes over time, giving you a realistic idea for future planning. This feature has been a game-changer for me. For example, I used to dread unloading and reloading the dishwasher, thinking it would take forever. But after tracking it, I realized it only takes me about 8 minutes! Knowing that precise time makes it much easier to commit to doing it right away instead of procrastinating. Some apps even offer gamification, turning chores into a fun little game with points or rewards. While I mostly stick to beating my own personal best with a timer, having that option can be super motivating on days when I'm just not feeling it. Another benefit is the reminder system – no more forgetting to do things like rotating laundry or wiping down the bathroom once a week. These apps act like a friendly assistant, keeping my home running smoothly without me having to constantly remember every little thing. My personal approach now combines my trusty timer with a good chore app. When I'm faced with a task like the overflowing sink or the dreaded dishwasher that needs attention, I open my app, set a timer for a realistic sprint, put on my favorite music, and just go for it. It genuinely transforms the experience from a chore into a focused challenge. It’s amazing how much more enjoyable and effective cleaning becomes when you have the right tools and a little strategy. I hope these extra tips help you too! Happy cleaning!
