Can Siblings Really Be Best Friends?
When I found out I was pregnant with a second girl, I was SO happy! I was elated that my daughters were going to grow up close in age, and have the opportunity to create endless memories of similar childhood experiences just like my sister and I had.
Having two daughters after growing up with one sister is so healing for my inner child. I basically get to watch mine and my sister’s childhood through the lens of my own children’s lives.
Since I love the bond that my daughters already share, I think it’s important that I support their relationship by doing the following as their mom:
MODEL POSITIVE BEHAVIORS
Set an example for your children by showing empathy, understanding in, and kindness in your own interactions with them. They will then learn how to treat each other with the same respect.
PROMOTE COOPERATION
Always encourage cooperation over competition. Promoting team efforts will help them work together through difficult situations.
CELEBRATE THEIR DIFFERENCES
Helping your children celebrate their unique skills, abilities, and personalities can allow them to learn from each other and respect each other’s perspectives.
