We Aren’t Cursed!

🌿 Root Check

Lately, I’ve been hearing the phrase “generational curses” a lot.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never been completely comfortable with that idea.

When I hear the word curse, I think of something dark. Something intentionally placed on a family. Something that suggests the people who came before us failed in some way.

But when I look at my family, that’s not what I see.

I see people doing the best they could with what they knew, what they had, and what they survived.

I see faith, resilience, sacrifice, and lessons learned, sometimes the hard way.

Were there things that didn’t get talked about? Absolutely.

Health. Mental health. Grief. Finances. Family conflict. Questions nobody had answers to.

But I don’t see a curse.

I see opportunities.

Opportunities for each generation to learn something new, share what they’ve learned, and leave a little more understanding for those coming behind them.

To me, that’s not breaking a curse.

That’s growth.

That’s evolution

That’s legacy.

What is something that wasn’t talked about much in your family growing up that deserves more conversation today?

... Read moreReflecting on the concept of "generational curses," I've come to appreciate how families often face challenges that are less about curses and more about inherited circumstances shaped by history and environment. In my own experience, understanding family patterns has been about uncovering stories of resilience rather than focusing on negativity. For example, issues like unspoken grief or mental health struggles often went undiscussed, yet recognizing them now allows for healing and stronger communication. The phrase "Time For A Root Check" resonates deeply because it encourages us to take stock of our family roots—not to find faults or curses, but to appreciate the perseverance and faith that brought us here. It's important to remember that every generation has faced its unique struggles, and through education and openness, we can transform these into opportunities for growth. In my journey, embracing my family legacy included openly discussing topics that were once taboo in my upbringing. Conversations about finances, health, especially mental health, have opened doors to better understanding and equipped me to support future generations more effectively. Rather than viewing challenges as curses, framing them as lessons reinforces a sense of empowerment and hope. I encourage others to consider what topics were once silent in their families and to start dialogues that nurture healing and growth. This approach not only honors those who came before us but also protects and uplifts those who follow. It’s a cycle of evolution, turning past struggles into a foundation of strength for the future.

There’s a-lot more we go through that stays unsaid. We need to share more of those realistic moments and know we are all struggling in the same way, it’s sad that society has made these common and normalized in motherhood. It’s just another reason to believe that we are amazing.🩷
