New York City in one day!🗽

This was mine and my boyfriend’s experience when we had about 5 hours to spend in NYC before our flight. We were staying in another part of the state and could only be in NYC the day of our flight back so we did as much as possible in that one day!

We rented a car and drove to all of these places. With the overwhelming size of NYC I think we did pretty good. We didn’t have time to get out of the car much so that’s why we didn’t walk Central Park and traffic didn’t allow us to drive through Times Square. Those were the only 2 things we didn’t accomplish on our agenda.😂

We loved NYC and can’t wait to go back and spend more time there. 🩷

Have you been to NYC?

New York

... Read moreSo, you've got limited time in the Big Apple, just like my boyfriend and I did? Don't worry, it's totally possible to have an amazing experience, even if it's a whirlwind 5-hour day trip! We drove our rented EV around and learned a lot about making the most of every minute. Here’s what I wish I knew, and some practical tips for your own adventure, whether you're traveling solo or with a companion. First off, planning is KEY. My biggest takeaway from our short trip was that NYC traffic can be incredibly intense. While driving our EV allowed us the flexibility to hit many spots, like passing the iconic Empire State Building and reaching the One World Trade Center area without constantly relying on public transport, if you're battling rush hour or prefer not to deal with parking, the subway is your best friend. It’s often quicker for getting between major attractions. For a truly unique experience like ours, renting an EV was a definite learning curve – downloading charging apps became part of the adventure! But it added to the story. When you only have a few hours, prioritize what you absolutely want to see. We managed to grab a bite at the famous Katz's Delicatessen, which was a true highlight of our food stops! Even if you can't go inside every landmark, driving past or getting a good view can be enough to soak in the atmosphere. We drove by the Empire State Building, obviously, and made sure to get good views of the Statue of Liberty from the Hudson River waterfront after visiting Ground Zero and the One World Trade Center. If you're into unique finds, keep an eye out for vintage stores; I even snagged a cool Millennium Falcon item for my dad – a fun reminder of our trip! One of the most magical parts of our quick visit was watching the sunset over the city. Even with limited time, finding a spot with a good view is usually possible. Whether it’s from a waterfront park like Battery Park, a high-up bar, or simply a clear vantage point from a bridge, make sure to factor in a few minutes to just breathe and take in the incredible colors as day turns to night. It’s a perfect, memorable way to end any New York City day, leaving you with a lasting image. If you’re planning a solo day trip, the beauty is you can tailor it exactly to your interests and pace. Want to spend all 5 hours exploring museums or a specific neighborhood? Go for it! Prefer to just wander through the bustling streets, maybe stopping for coffee and people-watching? That’s an option too. Don't feel pressured to see 'everything' – focus on one or two areas that genuinely excite you. Even though our trip was as a couple, the principles of efficient planning and prioritizing apply just as much to solo adventurers. Remember, it's about the unique experience you create for yourself. New York City is vast and endlessly fascinating, but even a short visit can leave a lasting impression. Our whirlwind trip proved that with a little planning and prioritizing, you can pack a punch and make incredible memories. We loved it so much and can't wait to go back and explore more deeply. What will you discover on your NYC day trip?
