“(Deuteronomy 13:4) 4 You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.”
In a world of shifting values and persuasive voices, Moses’ charge to Israel rings with timeless urgency: “Walk after the Lord… fear Him… keep His commandments… obey His voice… serve Him… hold fast to Him.” Each phrase is a step in the journey of faithful devotion.
To “walk after” God is to follow His lead, not our own. To “fear Him” is to revere Him above all else, even when others entice us to stray. “Keeping His commandments” is not mere rule-following, it’s a response of love to the One who first loved us. “Obeying His voice” means tuning our hearts to His Word, even when it whispers against the roar of culture. “Serving Him” is our joyful duty, and to “hold fast” is to cling to Him with all our might, especially when trials tempt us to let go.
The question we must ask ourselves: Am I walking after the Lord, or ahead of Him? Am I holding fast to Him, or to something else? May we renew our grip on His hand, trusting that He never lets go of ours.
