“(Proverbs 19:20-21) 20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction,

That you may be wise in your latter days. 21 There are many plans in a man’s heart, Nevertheless the LORD’s counsel—that will stand.

These verses speak especially to those in life’s later chapters. The world may say, “You’ve lived long enough, you know what’s best.” But Scripture gently reminds us: wisdom is not automatic with age; it’s cultivated through humility and a teachable spirit.

“Listen to counsel,” Solomon urges. Not just any counsel, but godly wisdom, rooted in Scripture, seasoned with grace, and aligned with the fear of the Lord. Why? So that we may be “wise in [our] latter days.” What a beautiful goal: to grow old not just in years, but in godliness.

And yet, even the wisest among us must remember: “There are many plans in a man’s heart…” We dream, we strategize, we hope. But only one counsel will stand, the Lord’s. His purposes are unshakable, His plans perfect.
