“(Colossians 3:15) 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”
Paul reminds us that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the active presence of Christ ruling within. The word rule carries the sense of an umpire, God’s peace is meant to govern our decisions, attitudes, and relationships. In a world of noise and division, Christians are called to live under the steady hand of Christ’s peace.
Imagine a referee in a game who ensures fairness and order. Without the referee, chaos would reign. In the same way, when God’s peace is allowed to “call the shots” in our hearts, unity and gratitude flourish.
Today, pause and ask; Is God’s peace ruling in me, or am I ruled by anxiety, pride, or resentment? Yield to His peace, and let gratitude be the natural overflow. As one body in Christ, we are called to live thankfully, showing the world that true peace is found only in Him.
Reflecting on my own spiritual journey, I have found that actively inviting God’s peace to 'rule' in my heart has transformed how I respond to everyday challenges. Like the referee in a game, God's peace provides a steady, calming influence that helps me navigate conflicts not with anxiety or pride, but with patience and understanding. It’s not always easy—sometimes the noise of the world and internal struggles can make this peace feel distant. However, making a conscious effort each day to surrender my worries and frustrations to Christ has created a space for unity and gratitude within me. One practice that helped me personally is pausing during moments of stress to ask, "Is God's peace really ruling in my heart right now?" This question encourages self-reflection and invites God’s presence to take the lead. I also noticed that when gratitude flows naturally from this peace, my relationships strengthen because I approach others with kindness rather than judgment. Living under the rule of Christ's peace means actively choosing to let go of resentment and pride, which can otherwise harden our hearts and divide us. It’s a continual process of aligning our attitudes with the peace that surpasses understanding—peace that acts as an umpire in the game of life, ensuring fairness, order, and love prevail. This mindset fosters a sense of community, as reminded in Colossians, that we are one body called to live thankfully together. In essence, allowing God’s peace to govern my heart has not only brought personal tranquility but has also enabled me to be a beacon of Christ’s love and unity to those around me. It’s a daily commitment worth embracing, especially in a world so often marked by division and unrest.
