“(1 Peter 2:1-2) 1 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,”
(NKJV)
Spiritual growth requires intentional nourishment. Just as a newborn cannot thrive without milk, Christians cannot grow without the Word.
Imagine a newborn baby; small, fragile, and completely dependent. That child doesn’t need complicated meals; it needs milk. And it doesn’t just sip occasionally. It craves it.
In the same way, our souls are designed to crave Scripture. When we neglect the Word, we become spiritually weak, easily frustrated, easily discouraged, easily tempted. But when we consistently take in the “pure milk” of God’s truth, strength returns, clarity grows, and Christlikeness begins to flourish.
Peter said, “lay aside,” Christians are to remove anything that dulls your appetite for Scripture, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, bitterness, distractions, sinful habits, or spiritual complacency.
Then open the Word with the same eagerness a newborn has for milk. Crave the Word. Grow in Christ.
Just as a newborn needs milk, your soul needs Scripture. Feed your faith and growth will follow.
