“(1 Timothy 6:12) 12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” ( NKJV)
Paul writes, “Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life…”
A boxer enters the final round exhausted. His legs feel heavy, his breathing tight, and every punch from the opponent seems stronger than the last. But in his corner, his trainer leans in and says, “You’ve already done the hard work. Don’t quit now. Fight the good fight—this round decides the story.”
With renewed resolve, the boxer steps back into the ring. He doesn’t win because he’s the strongest; he wins because he refuses to stop fighting.
Faith is not passive. It is a fight, a daily, deliberate choice to stand firm when the world pushes back. Paul reminds Timothy, and us, that eternal life is not something we drift into. We lay hold of it. We pursue Christ with intention, courage, and perseverance.
Some days the spiritual battle feels like that final round. Weariness sets in. Temptation presses hard. Doubts whisper. But the Lord has already equipped you with everything needed to stand. The Spirit strengthens your resolve. The Word steadies your steps. The promises of God anchor your hope.
Today, step into the “round” with confidence. Fight the good fight by choosing obedience over convenience, prayer over worry, Scripture over opinions, and Christ over compromise. The victory is not in your strength, it is in your Savior.

... Read moreDrawing from the scripture in 1 Timothy 6:12, fighting the good fight of faith resonates deeply with anyone facing daily challenges to their beliefs. In my personal journey, this verse has served as a powerful reminder that faith isn’t a passive feeling but an active commitment. Much like the boxer in the final round who doesn’t quit despite exhaustion, I’ve found that perseverance in faith requires intentional choices every day.
In moments of doubt or temptation, I’ve learned to lean on spiritual disciplines such as prayer and reading Scripture to reinforce my resolve. Choosing obedience over convenience isn’t always easy, especially in a world filled with distractions and conflicting opinions. However, embracing the promises of God and His provision through the Holy Spirit creates an inner strength that sustains me even when circumstances seem overwhelming.
Moreover, the image of 'laying hold on eternal life' reminds us that salvation and mature faith are not simply gifts we receive passively; they require an active pursuit of Christ with courage and dedication. This pursuit involves setting aside compromises and choosing Christ above all. As I continue this fight, I am encouraged that the victory comes not from my own strength but through reliance on the Savior.
For anyone feeling worn down by their spiritual battle, think of yourself stepping back into the ring with renewed determination. Each day offers an opportunity to fight the good fight by making choices that align with faith: prayer over worry, Scripture over popular opinion, and obedience over ease. Over time, these choices build endurance and deepen trust in God’s faithfulness, making the spiritual journey a victorious one.
