Junebug the alien
My alien persona, Junebug The Marsian#alien
You've seen the photos of Junebug The Marsian, my intergalactic alter ego, but who exactly is this enigmatic character, and what's the story behind her creation? For me, Junebug is so much more than just a costume or a makeup look; she’s a vibrant extension of my creative spirit, a way to explore storytelling and self-expression in a truly out-of-this-world way. The idea for Junebug first sparked from a fascination with classic sci-fi and a desire to embody something truly otherworldly. I wanted to create a character that felt both alien and strangely relatable, someone with a unique personality that shone through the elaborate makeup. I spent a lot of time sketching and imagining her backstory – where she came from, what her temperament might be like, and what message she might carry from her home planet, Mars. Giving her a name like Junebug felt whimsical and added a touch of unexpected charm to her extraterrestrial origins. Bringing Junebug to life involves a meticulous and incredibly fun transformation process. It all starts with achieving that signature blue-green skin, which requires careful layering of body paint and setting powders to ensure a smooth, durable finish. Then comes the intricate eye makeup, often featuring red-tinted eyes achieved with special contact lenses or bold eyeshadows to give her an intense, otherworldly gaze. Her dark hair, whether styled naturally or with a wig, adds to her mysterious allure, framing a face often adorned with dramatic contouring and a striking dark lipstick that completes her distinct look. Each step is a meditation, a gradual shedding of my everyday self and an immersion into Junebug’s persona. Once the makeup is on and the styling complete, it’s like stepping into another skin, another consciousness. Junebug has her own distinct demeanor – often serious and contemplative, sometimes with a hint of mischievous curiosity. She observes the human world with a detached yet fascinated air, conveying emotions primarily through her intense eyes and subtle expressions. Embodying her allows me to experiment with different facets of performance and character acting, pushing the boundaries of my own creativity. This entire process, from initial concept to full embodiment, is incredibly rewarding. It’s a powerful reminder that creativity has no limits, and that sometimes, the most profound self-discovery can happen when you step outside yourself and into the shoes (or spacesuit!) of another. If you've ever thought about creating your own persona, whether alien, fantastical, or something else entirely, I highly encourage it. It’s a journey of imagination, skill, and profound personal growth.
