bacon grilled cheese
8 slices Texas Toast
8 slices bacon
8 slices cheddar cheese
4 Tablespoons butter
Preheat a large skillet over medium high heat.
Spread the butter on 1 side of each piece of bread.
Place the bacon on the skillet and cook to your desired doneness. Once cooked, place the bacon on a plate lined with a paper towel.
Reduce the heat to low and drain off and extra grease. Then place one half of the bread onto the skillet with the butter side down. Top the bread with 2 slices of cheese, then 2 slices of bacon and then place the other piece of bread on top of cheese with butter side up.
Heat the sandwich for 2-4 minutes until the bottom piece of bread is golden brown. Flip and cook the opposite side sandwich for 2-4 minutes.
Remove the sandwich to a plate. Let the sandwich rest for 2-3 minutes so that the cheese is not too hot. Cut in half and enjoy!
If you're looking to elevate your bacon grilled cheese sandwich, a few tips can help you achieve that perfect crispy, cheesy bite every time. Starting with Texas Toast as your bread of choice not only ensures a sturdy base but also gives a satisfying crunch and slightly sweet flavor that complements the salty bacon and sharp cheddar cheese. When cooking your bacon, aim for a balance between crispiness and chewiness depending on your preference. Cooking bacon over medium-high heat allows the fat to render out nicely, resulting in crispy edges and tender centers. Draining excess grease from the pan before grilling your sandwich prevents it from becoming soggy or overly greasy. Butter is essential for browning the bread to a golden perfection, so make sure to spread it evenly on the outside of each slice. Using plenty of butter and keeping the heat low during grilling allows the bread to toast slowly and evenly without burning, while giving the cheese enough time to melt perfectly. For cheese, sharp cheddar is a classic favorite, providing a rich and tangy flavor that pairs wonderfully with bacon. You can also experiment with other cheeses like American, mozzarella, or smoked gouda to change up the flavor profile. Allow the grilled sandwich to rest for a couple of minutes after cooking. This short rest lets the cheese set slightly, preventing it from being too hot or runny when you bite in. Cutting the sandwich in half makes it easier to handle and share. For a twist, consider adding a few fresh ingredients inside the sandwich such as sliced tomatoes, caramelized onions, or a smear of spicy mustard or aioli to boost flavor complexity. Paired with a side of crispy fries or a light salad, this bacon grilled cheese sandwich can become a satisfying meal anytime. Overall, mastering this easy bacon grilled cheese recipe with Texas Toast and cheddar offers a quick, comforting dish that combines savory flavors and textures in every bite, making it a go-to favorite for many grilled cheese lovers.
