This Dubai chocolate cake was on sale at my local Walmart. I had to try it!
I have been wanting to try the “viral Walmart Dubai chocolate cake” for a while, but couldn’t justify the price, when I stumbled upon it on sale I had to purchase it! My husband was rolling his eyes at me a little when I showed him in excitement. Low key, I had been dying inside to try it, I love all things Dubai!
The top of the cake is a creamy whipped type of frosting that was supposed to be pistachio mousse but in my opinion it didn’t taste like pistachio at all.
The next layer was chocolate cake followed by the famous pistachio and that amazing crunch you get with the Kataifi.
The cake part of it was unfortunately dried out, it was not moist at all. And very sweet, not sure if it was Walmarts fault. I mean, “I did buy the cake on sale.” But overall the taste was good. Not sure if I’d buy another one though. Overall rating: /10:5
My Italian husband’s Overall rating: /10:0 He said it tasted like 💩
Also, it’s full of really bad ingredients, But life’s about balance 💪
... Read moreAfter trying the viral Dubai chocolate cake from Walmart, I've had a lot of thoughts swirling around about what makes these 'Dubai-style' desserts so appealing and what to consider before you grab one yourself! Beyond just the taste, there's a whole culture behind these treats.
First off, let's talk about that famous 'crunch' – the Kataifi. If you're wondering what that is, it's a type of shredded phyllo dough, commonly used in Middle Eastern desserts. When baked, it gets incredibly crispy and provides that unique textural contrast we all crave in a dessert like this. It's often sweetened and sometimes mixed with nuts, typically pistachios, which is why it's such a key component in a 'pistachio flavored filling' as seen on the label. This blend of rich 'dark chocolate cake' with a crunchy, nutty layer and a creamy 'pistachio flavored mousse' is what gives it that luxurious feel, aiming to replicate the sophisticated dessert experiences found in places like Dubai.
Speaking of ingredients, my initial reaction to seeing 'bad ingredients' on the label was pretty common. Most mass-produced cakes, especially those designed for a longer shelf life, will contain preservatives, artificial flavors, and sometimes high-fructose corn syrup to keep them moist (or at least try to!). While the label mentioned a "chocolate cake layered with pistachio flavored mousse and kataifi-style pistachio flavored filling," it’s always a good idea to check the full ingredient list if you're concerned about what you're eating. It’s a balance, right? Sometimes, the convenience and allure of a viral treat win out, but it's good to be informed.
If you're out hunting for this cake, you might be asking, "Is the Dubai chocolate cake near me?" It can be a bit hit or miss! Since it's a viral item, stock can fluctuate. I'd recommend checking your local Walmart's bakery section or even using their app to see if it's in stock before making a special trip. Sometimes these trendy items are seasonal or limited-time offerings. I've also heard of people finding smaller, 'mini dubai chocolate cake' versions, which might be a better option if you're just looking for a taste or don't want a whole cake, especially if it comes in a "clear plastic container" like the one I found.
And what if you try it and, like me, find the cake a bit dry or too sweet? Don't despair! I've learned a few tricks to elevate store-bought cakes. For example, serving it chilled can sometimes improve the texture, especially for creamy mousse layers. You could also try pairing it with something tart, like fresh berries or a dollop of unsweetened whipped cream, to cut through the sweetness. Sometimes a drizzle of a good quality chocolate ganache or even a light espresso syrup can re-moisten slightly dry cake layers and enhance the chocolate flavor. If you're a fan of the "chocolate shavings" on top, adding a few more might just elevate the experience even further!
Ultimately, while my personal rating was a 5/10, and my husband's was... well, let's just say less enthusiastic (haha!), the experience of trying these viral treats is often about more than just the perfect bite. It's about joining the conversation, seeing what the hype is about, and forming your own opinion. What are your thoughts on this viral cake, or any other 'walmart chocolate birthday cake' or 'walmart brownie cake' you've tried recently?
