Do they not get we need to build comfort first?
I love making new friends online. But lately, every time I hit a good groove with someone, they hit me with the “I’m in your city, wanna meet up?” text, and it totally kills the vibe. I just moved to a new place and got out of a long term relationship, so I joined Facebook friend groups to expand my circle.
I met this guy who’s practically my neighbor, we clicked instantly on WhatsApp: same humor, shared love for indie films and rants about adulting. The conversation was so natural, no awkward silences. Then out of nowhere, he texts: “I’m near your area tomorrow, let’s grab coffee at 4!” I mean I want real life friends, but we’d only been chatting a week! I felt pressured so I suggested postponing and he canceled altogether. Now things are weird and we barely talk.
Why do people rush IRL meets when the online vibe is perfect? Are they scared of “wasting time” if it doesn’t turn into an in person friendship? Do they not get that some of us need to build comfort first?
