From action legend to brutally honest storyteller

Honestly, after watching "The Shadow’s Edge" movie last year, I started getting into Jackie Chan’s movies.

I had seen some of his martial arts clips before, but never a full movie.

I also truly admire his passion and bravery, performing his own fight scenes without a stunt double, which speaks volumes about his dedication.

Lately, I found out that he had published a book, so I decided to borrow it.

I was honestly shocked by how open he was in the book.

He talked about his past affair, something most people would usually avoid, especially when it’s negative.

I was also surprised to learn that he donated some of his buildings to Singapore, and they’re located at SUTD.

He also shared about his past lifestyle, clubbing, gambling, chasing girls, s@x and more.

I didn’t expect him to be so honest, especially about topics that are often considered taboo.

One part I really loved was his thoughts on charity work.

I completely agree with his perspective.

Nowadays, fewer people seem to care about charity, or they assume others are doing it just for show.

While that might be true for some, it’s definitely not the case for everyone.

At the same time, people tend to focus more on celebrity gossip, like whether someone is dating or not.

Some fans even idolize celebrities to the point where they feel jealous or upset when they find out their favorite celebrity is in a relationship.

Given the current economy, it’s understandable that people may not donate as much as before.

Everything is getting more expensive, and global issues like wars also affect us.

If you’re a fan of Jackie Chan or just curious about his life, I highly recommend checking it out!

... Read moreReading Jackie Chan’s memoir, "Never Grow Up," genuinely gave me a new perspective on this iconic film star. Beyond his legendary martial arts skills and acrobatic stunts, what stood out was his raw openness about his life choices and personal struggles. For example, his candid discussions about his past affair and the impact it had on his family were surprisingly brave, showing a vulnerability rarely seen in celebrity autobiographies. One story that resonated with me was Jackie’s reflections on a risky stunt accident that nearly cost him his life in 1986. His honesty about the physical dangers he faced—not just acting out fight scenes but truly putting his life on the line—deepened my respect for his dedication. It reminded me that behind the fun and thrills of action films, there is often a tremendous amount of risk and sacrifice. Another aspect that enriched my understanding was his commitment to charity. He talked about donating old buildings to the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), something I had no idea about before. It’s fascinating how he preserved historic Chinese architecture, recognizing its cultural value even when others overlooked it. This shows a different side of Jackie—not just as a global star but as someone deeply connected to cultural heritage and philanthropy. His perspective on charity work also made me reflect on the importance of giving back, especially in today’s challenging economic climate. Jackie pointed out that despite some skepticism about celebrity philanthropy, genuine charity is vital and transformative. This reminded me that acts of kindness and support for those in need are more relevant than ever, and we can all contribute in ways big or small. Finally, Jackie’s reflections on fame and celebrity culture hit home. He critiqued how gossip often overshadows meaningful conversations, and how fans sometimes struggle with the personal lives of their idols. This insight helped me think about the unrealistic expectations we place on celebrities and the importance of seeing them as complex human beings with flaws and strengths alike. Overall, reading this memoir felt like having an honest conversation with Jackie Chan himself. It made me appreciate not just his on-screen persona but also his journey as a person who has faced adversity, learned from mistakes, and tries to make a positive difference in the world. For anyone intrigued by Jackie’s life story or interested in genuine celebrity memoirs, I highly recommend this book.
