Glad kids are learning about deepfakes early

I found this interesting book at the library last week!

It’s a children’s book called “The Troubles of Deepfakes”, but honestly… it’s not just for kids.

I was surprised by how well it explains AI and deepfakes in such a simple and easy to understand way.

It really made me think about how dangerous deepfakes can be especially when they’re used to harm others or spread misinformation.

Some people create them for fun or profit, but the impact can be serious.

This book reminded me that reading has no age limit.

Even children’s books can teach us something important

Highly recommend picking it up if you come across it!

... Read moreGrowing up in the digital age, I've witnessed firsthand how important it is for kids to understand the content they see online. Deepfakes, which are AI-generated videos that can make people appear to say or do things they never did, might sound like science fiction, but they're becoming increasingly common on social media platforms. When I first encountered the children’s book “The Troubles of Deepfakes,” I appreciated how it breaks down complex technology like deep learning into relatable stories—a method that truly helps young readers grasp the subject. The book’s vivid examples, such as a video of a president suddenly dancing or rapping, illustrate how convincing and yet misleading deepfakes can be. From my experience, children who learn about deepfakes early tend to develop a healthier skepticism toward online videos and news. They start to ask critical questions instead of accepting everything at face value. This is essential because misinformation can influence opinions, voting decisions, and trust in media sources. Another aspect that resonated with me is how deepfakes can harm individuals—not just celebrities or politicians, but ordinary people too. For example, scammers can use someone's voice deepfake to trick their family members, which shows why awareness is a powerful tool in digital self-defense. In addition, learning to spot deepfakes by noticing unnatural lip-syncing, odd shadows, or overly smooth skin can empower kids and adults alike. It’s a skill that’s becoming increasingly necessary as AI technologies evolve. By embracing educational tools geared toward younger audiences, such as this book, we can foster a generation that’s not only tech-savvy but also conscientious about the digital content they consume and share. For families, educators, and anyone interested in digital literacy, I highly recommend seeking out resources like this to start the conversation early.
