PLS DO NOT LISTEN TO 🎶 WHILE TALKING TO SOMEONE 😭

Long story short, and keeping details vague for privacy reasons:

I used to have a crush on this guy and we hung out once btw.

He wore an earpiece , listening to 🎶 while talking to me. ( which I didn’t really mind, though I felt that it is a bit rude 😭)

I was talking to him, but since he was listening to music, he completely misheard some things I said. 💀

I never corrected him because I genuinely didn’t know how to clear it up without making things awkward.

Looking back now, it’s actually kind of funny because he probably thinks I was way more obsessed with him than I actually was. 😭

It’s not just about rudeness; it impacts how well we understand each other. One time, similar to the story in the article, I was in a chat where the other person was distracted by music and kept mishearing what I said. It made the conversation awkward because they responded to words they didn't actually hear, and correcting them felt uncomfortable. Over time, I’ve realized that being fully present when talking to someone strengthens connection and shows respect. Even if you don’t intend to be rude, your body language and attentiveness matter. Using earbuds or earpieces might seem casual, but it can imply your focus is elsewhere. In social situations, especially when meeting someone new or dealing with sensitive topics, I recommend putting away music or any distractions. If you must listen to music or need to multitask, it’s better to communicate that upfront; this helps manage expectations and reduces awkward misunderstandings. On the flip side, for those on the receiving end, it’s important to notice these cues and decide if the conversation is worth continuing or better to postpone. Clear communication is key. Reflecting back on the shared story about the crush misunderstanding, it’s both funny and a reminder that technology or distractions can unintentionally complicate human interactions.
