Do yall wear ur scrubs tucked?

Hey fellow HCWs and students! It's a question almost everyone in the medical field has pondered: to tuck or not to tuck your scrubs? Honestly, my answer varies day by day, and I've found there’s no single right way – it’s all about what feels best and looks professional for you. I've definitely snapped a few mirror selfies trying to decide! Why I Sometimes Tuck My Scrubs In: For me, tucking in my scrub top often comes down to looking more put-together and professional. When I'm in a clinic setting or have meetings, a neatly tucked scrub top, especially if it’s cinched at the waist, gives a smarter appearance. It can also be more practical; I find it helps keep my top from getting in the way when I'm reaching or performing certain tasks. Plus, it can define your waistline a bit more, making you feel a bit more stylish even in scrubs! I remember one time, during a particularly busy rotation, having my top tucked in prevented it from snagging on equipment, which was a huge relief. When I Prefer My Scrubs Untucked: On the flip side, there are plenty of days when untucked is the way to go. Comfort is a huge factor here. After a long, demanding shift, the last thing I want is anything restrictive around my waist. Untucked scrubs offer more freedom of movement and can feel much more relaxed, especially with certain types of scrub pants that have a loose fit. It’s also great for layering; sometimes I wear a long-sleeve under-scrub top, and an untucked scrub top just flows better over it. Factors That Influence My Choice: The Department/Setting: Some departments or facilities might have unwritten (or even written!) rules about scrub appearance. I always observe what others are doing and adjust accordingly, especially in new environments. My Mood & Comfort: As I mentioned, comfort is key. If I feel bloated or just want to relax, untucked it is. If I want to feel sharp and ready for anything, I might tuck it in. Type of Scrubs: Some scrub tops are designed to be tucked (shorter, more tailored), while others look better untucked (longer, tunic-style). The fabric and cut really play a role. I've found that scrubs from brands known for their modern fit often look great either way, allowing for more flexibility. Weather/Layering: On colder days, an untucked top provides an extra layer of warmth over my waist area. When it's hot, a tucked top can feel cooler if I'm trying to minimize fabric flapping around. Ultimately, whether you tuck or untuck your scrubs is a personal decision.
