The people portfolio: building REAL connections.
As I get older I come to terms with the importance of networking and maintaining relationships. Early in life we're stuck on our cliques and building friend groups without boundaries and we easily discard people for the smallest misunderstanding or disagreement but what if I told you we were working backwards?
We don't need to make every connection a friendship or relationship, every person doesn't need to know everything about you, take into account that it might just be a networking opportunity! A person to add to your contacts in your people portfolio.
The real key to a successful unplugged life that'll lead to connections and a well balanced life is networking. Have you ever heard the saying it's not what you know it's who you know! It derived from pure TRUTH. What do the people you surround yourself with do, how do they make you feel? We often feel as if we need to relate to people to connect with them and that can't be furthest from the truth and completely stunting your growth.
BRANCH OUT: example: you're waiting in line at the grocery market and you begin to make small talk with a woman where you discover she's an insurance broker. You might not need one at the time but it's good to know one, so ask for her contact. Set a routine to check in and say hello occasionally to make this connection but what we don't do is try to make this a friendship because if the friendship fails you'll most likely lose a connection.
Aim to know a someone in every profession, you may know someone who needs someone!
As yhise invites begin to pour in, attend them! Host events, volunteer, get a hobby, become a regular somewhere, LIVE YOUR LIFE!
