I hit ‘block’ IMMEDIATELY every time

1. AI “Art” (of all mediums) —

Simply put: AI IS NOT MAKING ART 🗣️ its stealing from pre-existing art/artists and lacks any shred of authenticity. I’ve seen people argue “why are you gatekeeping art? what if I can’t draw or am not a good writer?” and to that I say: sucks, you’re not meant to be an artist then. and that’s ok! you can appreciate the arts without participating, just like people watch sports but aren’t athletes by any means.

2. AI “Chefs” —

This is genuinely weird to me, and I’ve seen so many on Lemon8 and FB. Yall are really using AI to create recipes *and* posting AI images of said recipes? Did you even cook it?? CAN you even cook?????

3. Holier Than Thou “Christians” —

I see this most on Lemon8, but it’s unfortunately common everywhere. Listen, I grew up in the church and consider myself a cross between Christian & spiritual (because of my culture), so I get that it often comes from who’s leading your churches; but there’s a SICK irony to how much a lot of yall are spreading hateful rhetoric all the while *you* don’t even live up to the standards you’ve set. It’s just crazy to me.

4. Harmful Spiritual Content Creators (obvious spiritual psychosis + people indulging in it) —

On a similar note: an alarming number of yall (both Christians and some self proclaimed spiritual/witchy girlies alike) are wayyyyyyyy too deep in the rabbit hole of spirituality and have sent yourselves into a psychosis. Because what do you MEAN you healed yourself from kidney stones with your mind??? Bestie, please put the crystals down and seek help.

5. Rage bait —

I’ve gotten better at identifying it, but it’s genuinely so frustrating to see it and to see people fall for it every time. ex: the “food hacks” that are absolutely atrocious.

6. Copy-paste engagement bait—

I see this most on Twitter & threads, but OMG I beg please just don’t post if you have nothing of your own to say. like wtf is the point 😭

7. Bandwagon Celebrity Hate/Ridiculous Conspiracy Theories —

I don’t mean this as a stan (because I really don’t stan anybody), but just as an observer. The second there’s a controversy, a lot of yall come out of the woodworks with “omg I never liked them” or “I always had a bad feelings about [insert name]” like are you well??? And I love a good conspiracy theory but yall are doing WAY too much lately. for example: the rampant beyonce hate that’s been going around simply for being acquainted with the diddler?? im seeing so many people saying she was responsible for the ☠️☠️ of Tupac, Aaliyah, MJ and others because they were “more famous” as if she wasn’t a literal child for one’s passing, had no relationship to another, and MJ was famous longgggg before bey was born. like let’s use our heads and stop letting the internet tell us what to think & how to feel, especially if we’re just taking whatever info the algorithm is giving us 🤦🏽‍♀️

... Read moreOkay, let's dive deeper into something that genuinely gets under my skin: AI-generated content. You know, the stuff that pops up on your feed, often looking just a little too perfect, or vaguely uncanny? It’s not just about a preference; for me, it’s about a fundamental issue of authenticity and respect for creators. When I see AI 'art' or 'recipes' being passed off as genuine human effort, I feel this immediate urge to block. It’s not gatekeeping; it’s about recognizing true creative value. My biggest gripe, and I know many fellow creators feel this too, is the ethical black hole surrounding how these AI models are even trained. They’re essentially scraping countless works created by human artists, writers, and photographers – often without their consent, credit, or compensation. Imagine pouring your heart and soul into a piece of art, developing a unique style over years, only for an algorithm to 'learn' from it and then generate something similar, indistinguishable to the untrained eye, and call it 'new.' It feels like a massive disrespect to the countless hours, the passion, and the very livelihood of human artists. It’s not just inspiration; it’s replication and often appropriation on a massive, automated scale. And don't even get me started on AI 'chefs'! I've seen so many posts on Lemon8 and other platforms where someone shares a recipe, complete with incredibly polished, almost sterile-looking food photos, only for it to be clearly AI-generated. My first thought is always, 'Did you even make this? Do you even *cook*?' There's a certain joy and struggle in cooking – the burnt edges, the perfectly imperfect plating, the actual smell of food. AI images lack that tangible reality, that warmth. It strips away the very essence of what makes food delightful and relatable. A real person's kitchen, their ingredients, their hands – that's what makes a recipe truly inspiring and trustworthy. When it's AI, it just feels like a hollow shell of content, designed purely for engagement without any real substance. This isn't to say I'm against technology, but when it starts to blur the lines of authorship and authenticity to this extent, it becomes problematic. It devalues the human touch, the unique perspectives, and the often-messy process of creation that makes genuine art and content so meaningful. It's about recognizing that there's an inherent difference between a human creating something from their own experience and skill, and a machine generating output based on algorithms. One has a soul; the other is code. So, when I say I hit 'block' immediately, it’s my way of drawing a line. It’s a small personal protest against the erosion of genuine creativity online. I’d rather fill my feed with content born from real passion, real effort, and real human experience – content that has a story behind it, not just a prompt. Let's support the people who are genuinely putting themselves out there, sharing their unique talents, and creating something truly original. It enriches our online spaces so much more than any algorithm ever could.
