POV: You finally visit Kulai… and it’s only 45 min

Can’t believe this is my first time here. Quiet, artsy, a little raw—and so underrated.

🌾 Kulai has a small Hakka community → Thunder rice is a MUST

Top 5 Must-Visit Spots in Kulai:

📍 Kulai Mural Street – Short (<200m) but full of character & photo spots

📍 Zhong Cheng Durian Farm – Skip saloon cars 🚫 dirt road ahead. RM70/kg (pricey), but seeing durians on trees hits different

📍 Cafe Ju Fei – Vintage vibes, handmade cakes & home-brewed coffee ☕️

📍 Putuo Village – Super healing energy. The bamboo dragon sculpture is stunning 🐉

📍 Rainforest Treehouse Cafe – Reservation needed. Food meh, vibes 💯 (even spotted a giant red centipede 👀)

Slow travel, nature, culture & cafe hopping—Kulai, we’ll be back.

Kulai
2/4 Edited to

... Read moreKulai is often overlooked despite its unique charm, especially the Hakka village aspect and cultural sites such as Zen Bee Siang Kulai. From personal experience, visiting these spots offers an authentic glimpse into Hakka traditions and community life. Zen Bee Siang Kulai, for example, is a refreshing stop that combines heritage with local flavors. While the original article highlights key places like Kulai Mural Street and the Rainforest Treehouse Cafe, I found that engaging with local villagers and trying traditional Hakka dishes creates a deeper connection to the culture. If you’re exploring Kulai, don’t miss the chance to visit the Hakka village areas where you can witness traditional houses and community practices, some of which aren’t widely publicized online. It’s a great way to slow down and absorb the peaceful rural atmosphere contrasted against the more common city escapes. Additionally, local markets often sell freshly harvested produce and handmade crafts, enriching your visit further. For those interested in cultural learning, several community centers offer workshops or small tours that showcase Hakka customs, including culinary art and festivals. Scheduling a visit during these events can be quite rewarding. Also, don’t hesitate to ask at cafes and local shops about any smaller, less touristy spots as locals usually have the best recommendations.
