Smart move of sectioned play area 🥰

Hi Zesties! 🌟

Sharing a little snippet from my reno diary today!

One thing I did differently this time was to create a dedicated play area for my girl. In our previous place, her toys were scattered around the living room—cluttered, messy, and honestly a bit of an eyesore. That’s why I always kept them minimal.

But with our new home (over 1,500 sqft with larger rooms 🏡✨), I decided to intentionally section out a small, cosy play zone that feels private yet flexible. The space is adaptable too—partitioned drawers can be moved around to separate the sleeping and play areas.

Her toys are now neatly tucked under the recessed area (a clever old-HDB feature that would’ve otherwise gone to waste). Extra brownie points when it can be covered by the night curtains, thus hiding away sight of the toys, making it neat and tidy. Instead of expensive and awkward carpentry, it’s now a practical and organised little nook for her to enjoy.

From my recent renovation, I learned how important it is to blend functionality with comfort. By choosing versatile partition drawers, I could separate the play and sleeping areas while ensuring the setup remains flexible for future changes. One tip I found invaluable is utilizing underused corners or recessed spots—like in old HDB flats—to tuck away toys. This keeps the area neat and gives kids a sense of their own special zone. Adding elements like a small sofa and wallpaper enhances the space’s warmth and invites creativity. For those considering a similar project, sourcing affordable pieces from places like Taobao and Shopee can save money without compromising style. Also, using night curtains to conceal toys at the end of the day helps maintain a tidy look. The key is creating a playful yet organized environment that adapts as your child grows, making it a smart move for any family home.
