🏡 My first rented room in Singapore looks a little like this

The rented room started with:

• Single Bed

• Bedside Table

• Dressing Table

• Wardrobe

I bought and added a few more items that I needed to make it work:

• Work Table

• Metal Rack

• Shelves

• Roller Chair

• Keyboard

• Piano Seat

Turns out being a designer means you never really stop making iterations even in your own life hahaha

Over the course of four years, there were multiple rounds of changes to the room layout. Especially in the beginning, I actually made it a point to change the layout at least once a month to experiment with the different layouts to see what worked best.

By the end of my time here, I had finally found a rhythm and orientation that suited both my lifestyle and the way I worked! Some of those ideas even made their way into my second rented room, easing me so well into a new space I have to work with 🏡✨

Don’t stop until you get enough,

Winnie ✌️

... Read moreMoving into a rented room in Singapore can be both exciting and challenging, especially when it comes to making the space truly feel like home. From my personal experience, starting with the basics like a single bed, bedside table, dressing table, and wardrobe—which are commonly provided in furnished rooms—was just the beginning. What truly transformed the room was gradually adding pieces that fit my lifestyle and work needs: a work table, metal rack, shelves, a roller chair, keyboard, and even a piano seat. These additions allowed me to integrate my passion as a designer into my living space, turning it into a dynamic environment that supported both productivity and relaxation. During the first year, frequent changes in room layout—sometimes monthly—helped me discover what worked best in terms of comfort and functionality. This experimentation included testing different orientations for furniture placement, balancing natural light for work tasks, and maximizing storage efficiency in a compact room. This iterative approach made a significant difference, preventing the space from feeling monotonous and encouraging a fresh perspective each time I rearranged. One practical tip I discovered is to use modular or multipurpose furniture, such as metal racks and shelves, which not only save space but also offer flexibility for future changes. Investing in ergonomic and comfortable seating, like a roller chair, greatly improved long hours spent working or practicing music at home. For others renting rooms in Singapore, I recommend embracing the process of customization gradually rather than rushing to fully furnish immediately. This allows you to better understand your daily habits and adjust the space accordingly. Finally, maintaining the mindset of continuous improvement and iteration—much like in design projects—can turn any rented room into a personalized sanctuary that supports both your lifestyle and creativity. After all, your home should grow with you, adapting as your needs evolve over time.

$1,000 Rent, But Worth Every Dollar
$1,000 for rent, but it bought me peace of mind. My parents still think I’m wasting money on rent. To them, every dollar should go into buying a house. But after years of sharing a room with my sibling, I wanted a bit of freedom. Last year, I rented a room in Hougang for $1,000 a month.

hello you on lemonade, happy to meet you!!🤓🍋
I'm a Singaporean who has moved out nearly 5 years ago and has spent the last few years figuring out adulthood, work, money, routines and what it means to build a life that feels like my own. By day (and sometimes night), I juggle multiple roles across education, design and a small business.

The Truth About Living Alone
Growing up in an unstable home, I learned to be independent long before most people my age. At 17, I was forced out, moving from one relative’s place to another — never staying long enough to feel settled. That didn’t last either. And at 22, with nowhere left to go, I finally began living on my own

Our BTO will only come to completion in another 2 years' time so my partner and I decided to move out of our parents' to start our lives together as a couple. Financially, it doesn't make sense because many young SG couples would stay at their parent's until their BTO is ready o

Our Intimate ROM in a Cantonese Restaurant
Husband and I recently held our solemnisation at Jia He — One Farrer Hotel We hosted 28 guests (3 tables) in a private room. I would say it can comfortably fit 30-33 in total. The room was cozy, ceiling height was good, lighting was ambient and our families absolutely loved the food. 🍽️:
