Proverbs 22:1 A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
2 Rich and poor have this in common: The Lord is the Maker of them all. 3 The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.
4 Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life. 5 In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls, but those who would preserve their life stay far from them. 6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

The verses in Proverbs 22 offer profound guidance that resonates deeply during Thanksgiving, a time for reflection and gratitude. One key verse, Proverbs 22:6, reminds us, "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it." This highlights the importance of instilling godly values early in life, which not only shapes their character but also ensures they carry this wisdom throughout their lives. Teaching humility and the fear of the Lord encourages children to seek honor and riches that are truly lasting — riches of the spirit and character rather than material wealth. Humility, as described in Proverbs 22:4, is the fear of the Lord and leads to riches, honor, and life. This verse beautifully ties humility to profound blessings, emphasizing that true treasure lies not in earthly possessions but in walking humbly with God. During Thanksgiving, embracing humility can transform our hearts, prompting us to appreciate the intangible blessings—relationships, faith, and spiritual restoration—that enrich our lives. Moreover, Proverbs 22:1 teaches that "A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold." This wisdom urges us to prioritize integrity and reputation, values that foster trust and respect within our communities and families. Reflecting on this during Thanksgiving invites us to honor not just the food on our tables but the spiritual legacy and godly influence we pass on to future generations. In practical terms, this means engaging in prayers for wisdom and guidance, as the original reflection encourages, not only for ourselves but for all children who bear the responsibility to spread the Gospel’s goodness. Supporting children and youth in their spiritual journey leads to a restored community rooted in love and humility. By cherishing these teachings throughout the Thanksgiving holiday and beyond, we embrace a humble heart that not only thanks God but also embodies the lessons of Proverbs 22, nurturing a legacy of faith, courage, and godly wisdom.
