REVELATION 21:1Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

... Read moreThe first verses of Revelation 21 truly paint a picture of profound hope, a future where sorrow and pain are no more. But the vision doesn't stop there. When I delve deeper into Revelation 21, especially verses 5-8, I find even more powerful assurances for our journey of faith.
Verse 5 proclaims, "He who was seated on the throne said, 'I am making everything new!' Then he said, 'Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.'" This isn't just a promise; it's a declaration from the very throne of God! It reassures me that the struggles we face now are temporary. When we feel overwhelmed, remembering that God is actively making everything new can bring immense peace. It’s a call to trust and have faith, even when our current circumstances seem bleak. This promise of renewal is what keeps us going, knowing that the "old order of things" is truly passing away, and a glorious future awaits.
Sometimes, we ask, "How do I trust faith God opens doors?" This chapter provides a beautiful answer. It's about patiently waiting for God's divine timing, knowing His plan is perfect. The journey to that "new heaven and new earth" often involves moments where we need to be patient and trust God completely. It's in those moments of waiting that our faith truly grows. The concept of "God's open arms," as the image reminds us, is central to this. When we run to God's open arms, everyone is truly fulfilled, finding solace and direction. He never leaves us alone; He inhabits us, guiding our every step and thought, just as I've experienced in my own life.
Revelation 21:6 further emphasizes God's sovereignty: "He said to me: 'It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life.'" This is such a comforting thought! God is the source of all life and completion. He promises to satisfy our deepest spiritual thirst. This echoes the original sentiment about feeling lonely and a desperate need for attention; God fills that void completely.
Then, verses 7 and 8 offer a clear distinction. "Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death." This reminds us of the importance of living a life of faith and perseverance. It's not about being perfect, but about striving to overcome and remain steadfast in our commitment to God. This includes striving for virtues that align with what God loves, fostering a deeper connection with Him.
So, when we hear "he will wipe every tear from their eyes," it's not just a comforting phrase; it's a profound promise rooted in God's plan to make all things new. The pain will end, and tears will stop forever. This isn't just about a distant future; it’s about finding strength and hope in that promise today, allowing it to transform our perspective and motivate us to live according to God's beautiful teachings. It's about letting that hope open doors to a richer, more peaceful existence, even amidst life's current challenges.
