Creating October Road 🍎🎃

This batch didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted.

I poured the wax a little too cool, which caused some crystallization and an uneven back. It doesn’t affect how the wax melts perform, but I’m always working on improving my craft.

Every batch teaches me something new, and I’m excited to keep learning as I build Hendrix & Hollow. 🤎

From my experience, controlling the temperature of the wax during pouring is crucial to avoid crystallization, which can cause uneven surfaces and back textures, as seen with the cooler pouring temperatures. Although this crystallization doesn't impact the melting performance, it does affect the visual finish, which matters for handmade products presented to customers. When I first started making wax melts, I encountered similar issues—poured wax that was too cool often developed an uneven back and crystallized bits. To improve, I experimented with different pouring temperatures ranging between 135°F to 150°F, which helped minimize crystallization while keeping the wax manageable. Patience plays a big role too, as rushing the process leads to such imperfections. Additionally, the choice of wax type and additives can influence crystallization. For example, soy wax blends with a low melting point are more prone to crystallize if poured too cool. Adding stearic acid or vybar can sometimes help in getting a smoother finish. Each batch offers new lessons, which are essential for refining one’s technique. Embracing these challenges with a mindset focused on continuous learning helps build a brand that stands for quality and care, just like Hendrix & Hollow. The satisfaction from creating cozy fall scents that fill a home with warmth makes overcoming craft obstacles worthwhile. If you're also learning candle making or wax melt crafting, I recommend keeping a detailed production journal to track pouring temperatures, wax types, and outcomes. This practice enables you to adjust methods precisely for the best results. By sharing these insights, I hope others can enjoy the creative journey and improve their own small business or hobby crafting experiences.
