The PERFECT use for leftover cranberry sauce!! 🥰
The question that somehow comes up every year after Thanksgivings is whether or not to save the leftover cranberry sauce. Its statistically the least loved dish at the holiday and I would argue that likely the least favorite leftover after, too.
So I got a little creative and decided to turn it into a ponzu dipping sauce; a ponzu is, classically speaking, a japanese citrus-based sauce that’s tangy, savory and often used as a dipping sauce so I knew it would be perfect here with some seasonal veggie tempura! I switched things up by not only adding in blood orange as a base, but leftover tangy cranberry sauce and wow - its honest to goodness perfection.
I am a big fan of something that *sounds* fancier than it actually is, and these are sure to impress any lingering house guests at the holidays who especially wanna leave you to deal with the leftovers on your own 😐👀 and I think we all know the people in our lives I am referring to.
Give this a try this upcoming Black Friday and let me know what you think 🥰✨!

Leftover cranberry sauce is often overlooked and underappreciated after Thanksgiving, but it holds great potential beyond the usual reheated side dish. One innovative way to elevate this tangy condiment is by incorporating it into a ponzu sauce, a classic Japanese citrus-based dipping sauce known for its bright, savory flavor profile. Ponzu sauce traditionally blends soy sauce, citrus juice, and vinegar, creating a balance of tanginess and umami that complements various dishes, particularly seafood and fried vegetables. By adding leftover cranberry sauce and blood orange juice as a base, you introduce a natural sweetness and vibrant color that perfectly complements seasonal vegetable tempura. The light and airy tempura batter contrasts beautifully with the slightly sticky, flavorful ponzu cranberry dip. This fusion not only prevents food waste but also impresses guests with a dish that sounds elegant yet is simple to prepare. It's a clever way to refresh your holiday palate, especially during post-Thanksgiving events like Black Friday gatherings. Such a recipe fits well within plant-based and vegan diets, making it versatile for various guests. Incorporating leftover cranberry sauce into sauces or dressings is a smart kitchen hack. Other ideas include mixing it into vinaigrettes, marinades, or even smoothies for a tart twist. It’s worth remembering that cranberry sauce pairs well with savory and sweet elements, lending itself to creative experimentation. Next time you face those leftover cranberry containers, consider this ponzu-inspired dipping sauce. It revitalizes your leftovers, enhancing your holiday meal repertoire with bold flavors that uplift and lighten your dishes. Don’t hesitate to try, taste, and share this delightful concoction for a leftover solution that tastes anything but leftover.
