📋 Wedding Planning: The MVP — ChatGPT 🤖
Alright, God knows I’ve made many a foolish financial decision throughout my life.
Heck, I’ve even made foolish financial decisions while preparing for this wedding alone.
But this SGD $25/month has got to be my best investment in this blessed day and age of technology.

No wedding planner?
Fret not. There are AI bots out there that have answers.
Even if they don't, they'll pretend to have answers, or hallucinate one for you.
Either way, you'll always get a response.

ChatGPT was a constant presence throughout our wedding preparation.
It advised us on basic topics such as:
- Styling inspiration for our reception table / foyer
- Solemnisation and reception march-in pieces and how to achieve ✨ thematic consistency ✨
- How many wine bottles is sufficient for our moderately drinking crowd and the logic behind it
- Which is the best brand of wine to get that's "cultured" yet "affordable"
- Wedding speech cadence and content
to more.. difficult ones:
- Whether I should’ve invite specific wedding guests to avoid future awkward conversations, e.g. professional mentors (the answer is no, by the way)
- The politically correct way of arranging the guest seating plan
- How to respond to a PWS photography studio who has been giving increasingly.. personal replies after a subpar photoshoot experience
- Angbao rates for my helpers and AD crew and the exact number of pieces of specific denominations I must procure
- Wedding planning fatigue and how to deal with the oscillating thoughts of “I just want to get it over with” but also “I’ve been spending so much time on this it must be perfect”
It even helped to visualise / generate certain images that were helpful such as:
- Photobooth frame (10/10 would recommend)
- Reception table mockups (0/10 would recommend)
- Photography pose ideas (10/10 would recommend)

I have also been throwing it this series of Lemon8 posts, not because I want proofreading, but because I want the validation that if nothing else, I have an audience of 1, even if it’s a non-sentient language model.

So yes, for wedding planning…
Forget best friends.
Forget even your betrothed.
Because for better or for worse, in sickness and in health, ChatGPT is all you need.
(Yes, it also diagnosed me with a flu around 4 weeks before the wedding when I asked it why I was feeling funny.
A subsequent doctor’s appointment confirmed the diagnosis.)
+++
(Also, not saying it’s always a smooth-sailing relationship.
ChatGPT actually claims that I argue with it (image 4).
I wonder if there’s relationship counselling for that.)

Not a sponsored post.
Not even a proofread-by-AI post.
I like to live dangerously.
Swipe to the end for my ChatGPT’s (yes, it’s unnamed) hello.

Planning a wedding can be overwhelming, especially without a professional planner. From my personal experience, integrating ChatGPT into the process was a game-changer. Beyond the typical advice online, ChatGPT provided tailored suggestions based on my unique needs, such as helping determine the optimal number of wine bottles for our moderately drinking guests and recommending affordable yet cultured wine brands. What impressed me most was its versatility—it assisted with thematic consistency by suggesting cohesive music for both solemnisation and reception march-ins, easing the stress of creating a memorable atmosphere. Another invaluable aspect was using AI to navigate the social intricacies of wedding guest lists and seating arrangements. ChatGPT’s guidance on avoiding awkward future conversations—like excluding certain professional mentors—and suggesting politically correct seating plans saved me a lot of anxiety. Its advice extended to practical matters too, such as calculating precise angbao rates for helpers and designating specific denominations, which kept our budgeting organized and fair. I also fed ChatGPT my creative needs. Asking for photobooth frame designs and photography pose ideas led to surprisingly helpful image suggestions, making visual planning less daunting. While not all generated visuals were successful (reception table mockups were a miss), the ability to quickly explore creative options accelerated my decision-making. Perhaps unexpectedly, ChatGPT even supported my mental well-being through wedding fatigue phases. When feeling conflicted between rushing to finish and wanting everything perfect, it offered strategies to balance these thoughts, reminding me it’s okay to pace myself. Having an AI consistently available was like having a 24/7 wedding companion—ready to answer or at least provide ideas, reducing reliance on constantly bothering friends or family. It even diagnosed a flu symptom before my doctor’s visit, showing versatility beyond planning alone. Of course, the relationship had its quirks—sometimes I debated or “argued” with ChatGPT’s suggestions, revealing how deeply involved and real the interaction felt. Despite occasional imperfections, ChatGPT became an unexpected MVP, making a complex process approachable and surprisingly enjoyable. For anyone overwhelmed by wedding planning, I highly recommend considering AI as a personal assistant. It’s affordable, accessible, and offers a wealth of knowledge, from logistics to creativity and emotional support. With technology like ChatGPT, you don’t have to go it alone—or break the bank—to create a meaningful and well-organized wedding day.
