Career Path Based on Interests

Knowing what options you have helps open doors for you. Whether your interests are in beauty, travel, design or nature, there is a well paying career for you.

Plus, it's never too late to start. The best time to start your career path is now.

1. Research career paths for your desired career

2. Get a "feel" for it through Day in the Life videos, industry specific podcasts or industry webinars

3. Take your next steps through certification, education or building a portfolio

4. Network your way in, online or in person. LinkedIn isn't that bad. It can be fun when you join groups that have your same interests. You can even try reaching out to old professors/bosses/ classmates. They might be a big help in putting in a good word for you.

5. Craft a resume with transferrable skills. Go to Indeed or ZipRecruiter to find a list of Skills to place on your resume

6. Seek out entry level jobs and internships. Entry level isn't as easy to break into these days but you can start by crafting a resume to that job through skill building and certification. You can also just volunteer and build from there.

Dream big, start small and then, make it yours!

... Read moreSo, you're dreaming of a career where your passion for beauty meets strategic business savvy? Becoming a Beauty Brand Manager might just be your calling! When I first started thinking about this path, I was a little overwhelmed, but taking it one step at a time made all the difference. First, let's talk about what a Beauty Brand Manager actually does. It's not just about makeup and skincare – it's about being the voice and vision behind a beauty product or line. You'll be involved in so many exciting aspects, from product development and launch strategies to marketing campaigns, sales analysis, and understanding consumer trends. Imagine seeing a product you helped shape on a store shelf – that's the kind of thrill you get! You're essentially the mini-CEO of your brand. To really get your foot in the door, a strong foundation is key. While a marketing or business degree is common, don't feel limited if your background is different. Transferable skills are incredibly valuable here. Think about courses or experiences in consumer behavior, market research, or even communications. For me, volunteering at local beauty events and writing a beauty blog gave me practical insights into consumer preferences and industry trends, which I could then highlight on my resume. Networking is another huge piece of the puzzle. LinkedIn genuinely helped me connect with people already in the industry. I started by looking up 'Beauty Brand Manager' and related roles like 'Beauty Product Designer' or even 'Perfumer' (if you're into fragrance development) to see their career paths. Don't be afraid to send a polite message asking for an informational interview. Most professionals are happy to share their experiences. I learned so much just by asking 'What does a typical day look like for you?' or 'What skills do you find most crucial?' Building a portfolio for this role can be tricky, as it’s not always visual. Instead, think about showcasing your strategic thinking. Did you manage a project, even a small one, that involved marketing or understanding a target audience? Did you analyze sales data or consumer feedback in a previous role? Highlight those achievements! Even if you're aiming for an entry-level position, showing initiative in understanding the beauty market, perhaps by analyzing existing beauty campaigns or conceptualizing a new product idea, can really make you stand out. And hey, if the Beauty Brand Manager role feels a bit out of reach initially, consider related paths that can build your experience. Maybe a role as a marketing coordinator for a beauty company, or even delving into digital marketing specifically for beauty brands. The OCR mentioned 'Dermatologist' as a beauty-related career; while very different, understanding the science behind skincare can be a huge asset in product development discussions. Every bit of relevant experience builds towards your ultimate goal. Remember, the beauty industry is dynamic and always evolving, so continuous learning and adapting are crucial. You've got this!
