The Canadian Rockies are a truly unmatched destination. Everything looks like it popped out of an issue of National Geographic.
Lake Louise was on my bucket list for years and I’m beyond ecstatic that I finally made it there. Have you ever been?

After finally making it to Lake Louise, I can truly say Banff National Park is a dream come true! But beyond that iconic turquoise water, there's so much more to explore. If you're planning your own trip to this incredible part of the Canadian Rockies, here are some of my other absolute top picks and must-do activities that really made my visit unforgettable. Of course, everyone knows Lake Louise, and for good reason! The color of the water is mesmerizing. My best tip for visiting is to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the biggest crowds. Renting a canoe there, even for an hour, is an experience you won't forget – paddling on that serene water with the Victoria Glacier towering above is pure magic. For hikers, the trails around Lake Louise, like the one up to the Lake Agnes Teahouse, offer stunning panoramic views and a well-deserved treat at the top! Another absolute gem, often paired with Lake Louise, is Moraine Lake. The Valley of the Ten Peaks behind it makes for one of the most stunning backdrops you'll ever see. The rockpile trail there is a must-do for incredible photos. Just like Lake Louise, aim for off-peak hours, and remember that the road to Moraine Lake is usually only open from late May/early June to mid-October. For a slightly different kind of beauty, make sure to visit Peyto Lake. This lake, famous for its unique fox-head shape, offers another breathtaking viewpoint. It's a bit further north on the Icefields Parkway, but the drive itself is spectacular, and the view from the Bow Summit lookout is absolutely worth it. After a day of hiking and exploring, there's nothing quite like unwinding. And speaking of relaxation, you have to check out the Banff Upper Hot Springs! Imagine soaking in mineral-rich, warm water with incredible mountain views all around you. It's the perfect way to recharge and literally feel the stress melt away. You take the general idea of a man-made public pool and elevate it into a truly natural, rejuvenating experience. It's one of my personal favorite spots to soothe tired muscles and just soak in the beauty of Banff. Beyond the lakes, I also highly recommend a walk through Johnston Canyon. It's an accessible trail that leads to stunning waterfalls, both Lower and Upper Falls, with catwalks built into the canyon walls. In winter, the frozen waterfalls are an incredible sight, and ice climbing is popular there! When planning your trip, remember to book accommodations well in advance, especially during peak season. You'll also need a Parks Canada pass to enter the national park. Always be wildlife aware – you're in their home! Carry bear spray and know what to do if you encounter animals. Dressing in layers is key, as mountain weather can change quickly. Banff National Park truly offers something for everyone, whether you're an avid hiker or just looking to take in some of the most spectacular scenery on Earth. These top picks are just a starting point for your own incredible adventure!
