James 1:2-4
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
- I am being tested by fire. He is refining me.
- In the suffering it is hard to understand
- But the trials and the test that I go through helps me to persevere to the other side.
There’s a finish line and my God has given me a promise.
I’m coming out of this grave. I’m coming out of this wheelchair. And I don’t care who hears it and doesn’t believe it, he is faithful.
But in the meantime, my life doesn’t look like what I
thought it was going to win this all began. But I know in the right season I will reap a harvest. That is the benefit of remaining faithful under his wing. You will see the fruit of your labor.
So I encourage everybody don’t give up, love God and find him. Wait on him, and if he is giving you a promise, BELIEVE IT!!!
- If he said it, he will do it.
Don’t give up on the one that never gave up on you
When life throws unexpected challenges our way, it's natural to feel overwhelmed, confused, and sometimes even lost. I've been there, navigating my own 'trials of many kinds' that felt like they would never end. But it's in those moments, as James 1:2-4 beautifully reminds us, that we're called to find 'pure joy' because these tests strengthen our faith and produce perseverance. My personal journey through hardship has taught me that simply enduring isn't enough; there's a deeper layer to trusting God and growing through adversity. The original passage speaks powerfully about perseverance, and I truly believe that it's crucial for us to let that perseverance 'finish its work.' This means not just getting through the tough times, but allowing them to mold us, refine us, and make us 'mature and complete, not lacking anything.' However, what do we do when we're in the thick of it, when the path forward seems murky and our understanding is limited? This is where James 1:5-8 offers an incredible promise and a practical guide. It says, 'If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.' This passage has been a lifeline for me. There were countless times during my trials when I felt utterly clueless about what to do next. How do I make sense of this suffering? How do I respond? How do I see God's faithfulness when everything around me feels chaotic? It was in those moments of desperation that I learned to explicitly ask for wisdom. It wasn't about asking for the trial to disappear immediately, but for the insight to understand it, the strength to navigate it, and the perspective to see God at work within it. I often remind myself of the 'WEDNESDAY Bible study' insights that emphasize 'Trusting in God.' He truly 'is faithful in our suffering,' and He's 'in our hardship helping us to press on!' Asking for wisdom 'without doubting' isn't easy. Doubt can creep in subtly, whispering 'what if' or 'why me.' But I've found that it's a choice to lean into faith, even when my feelings are screaming otherwise. It means presenting my fears and uncertainties to God, but then making a conscious decision to believe in His character – that He is good, that He is generous, and that He will guide me. It's not about having perfect faith, but about having a willing heart that continues to turn to Him. Just as the OCR noted, He helps us to 'press on' even when it's incredibly hard. So, as we strive to let perseverance do its work (James 1:2-4), let us also deeply internalize the call to seek wisdom (James 1:5-8). These verses, when understood together, paint a complete picture of how we can not only survive trials but truly thrive through them. God offers us not just the strength to endure, but also the divine guidance to understand and navigate every twist and turn. It’s an incredible comfort knowing that when we feel lost, all we have to do is ask, believe, and trust that He will generously provide. This holistic approach empowers us to experience joy, grow in maturity, and ultimately, witness the promised harvest of our faithful endurance.
