reading goals, yes or no?

... Read moreHey fellow bookworms! So, my initial post was all about hitting my 2024 READING CHALLENGE goal way ahead of schedule (44 BOOKS READ and counting, when my original goal was 30!). It got me thinking about why setting READING GOALS is such a game-changer and how we can all make the most of them. Whether you're a seasoned reader or just starting your journey, having a 'reading goal' can truly transform your reading experience. Why Bother with Reading Goals? It's not just about hitting a number. For me, it's about pushing my boundaries, discovering new authors and genres I might never have picked up otherwise. It gives a sense of accomplishment and keeps me accountable, especially when life gets busy. It's like having a personal 'books read this year' tracker that constantly motivates me. Plus, when you reflect on your 'past challenges,' seeing that progress is incredibly rewarding. Setting Your Own "2024 Reading Challenge": Don't feel pressured to read 50 or 100 books right away. Start with a number that feels achievable but still a little bit of a stretch. Maybe it's 12 books (one a month), or even just 5 if you're new to the habit. The beautiful thing is, you can always 'EDIT GOAL' later! I started my '2024 READING CHALLENGE' with a modest number, and look where it got me! Consider other types of goals too: Genre Exploration: Read one book from a genre you never touch (e.g., sci-fi, historical fiction, poetry). Diverse Voices: Seek out authors from different backgrounds or cultures. Page Count: Instead of books, aim for a certain number of pages per week or month. Specific Challenges: Participate in themed challenges like a 'classic reads challenge' or a 'book bingo'. Staying on Track & Boosting Your "Books Read" Count: Schedule Reading Time: Even 15-30 minutes a day can make a huge difference. Treat it like any other appointment. Join a Community: Book clubs (like #lemon8bookclub) or online communities (#booktok, #bookgirlie) offer encouragement, recommendations, and a place to discuss your reads. Knowing others are on a similar journey can be incredibly motivating. Mix It Up: Don't be afraid to switch between genres or even start multiple books at once. Sometimes a change of pace is all you need to get out of a slump. Don't Force It: If a book isn't working for you, it's okay to put it down. Life's too short to read books you don't enjoy! Just pick up something else. This helps keep your 'BOOKS READ' count moving forward with positive experiences. Celebrating Milestones (and Adjusting When Needed): Every milestone, big or small, is worth celebrating! Whether it's finishing your first book of the year or reaching 50% of your goal, acknowledge your progress. And if you find yourself ahead, like I did, consider whether you want to 'EDIT GOAL' upwards or just enjoy exceeding it. If you're falling behind, don't despair! Adjust your goal, re-evaluate your reading habits, or find a buddy reader for extra motivation. The key is to make reading enjoyable, not a chore. What are your 2024 READING CHALLENGE goals?
